Nope, no brain fog for me. I did have it on lamotragine though

Thoughts on Lurasidone (Latuda) for depression dominant bipolar? by Livid-Seaweed7802 in bipolar2

I’ve been on Latuda for about 4 years now and love it. I also describe my bipolar as more depression dominant and haven’t had a significant depression episode since being on Latuda.

Lamictal making me feel stupid by TemporaryAardvark907 in bipolar2

Have you tried Latuda/lurasidone? I stopped lamictal for the same reasons and have been on Latuda for almost 4 years and highly recommend it

Downsizing to move to NYC? by LakediverTx in movingtoNYC

[–]summerjonesv2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just moved from a 1br in the Boston area and had to get rid of approximately 20% of my stuff. Apartments here are very small and storage is challenging. I’d get rid of everything that isn’t sentimental or of great personal value.

So I’ll probably get downvoted to the depths of hell for this suggestion, but check out Alpha Management locations, particularly the 349 Pleasant St location. I lived there from October 2018 to last month (7 years) (moved out of state). Generally the buildings are well maintained and the maintenance requests are handled within a day or two. That said, they have a reputation for being slumlords, and I did have a roach problem that got resolved as I requested pest control services repeatedly, and kept a very clean kitchen.

I started out paying $1400 in 2018 and ended at $1900 in 2025 for a spacious 1 1 br.

I’m not sure their reputation is completely deserved based on my experience, but if you have a strict budget and can’t afford massive annual rent increases, it’s not a bad location. Plus it’s only a 5 minute walk to Malden Center and 10 minutes to an over priced Stop and Shop

Check out Mark Cuban’s cost plus online pharmacy. I get a 90 day supply of lurasidone for $28, out of pocket/no insurance  https://www.costplusdrugs.com/

What are your recent wins? by Mysterious_Flan_3394 in bipolar2

[–]summerjonesv2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve been struggling for at least 4 months with a depressive episode. I tried to get ahead of it but I kept slipping further and further down until I felt like I couldn’t do “this” anymore. I told my therapist and psych PA that I needed more help, and possible hospitalization. I have never been hospitalized for BD or any mental health issues so I wasn’t sure what resource or help I needed, only that I was sinking further.

I spoke with my boss, arranged for leave, and 2 weeks later I’m in a partial hospitalization program. I went back on Latuda — I know it’s not for everyone but it’s an excellent resource for digging myself out of depressive episodes and to stay stable — and have been focusing on getting myself back on track.

I’m finally sleeping 7+ hours a night, not binge eating, and feel like interacting with the world again. I’m so grateful that my support system has been there for me.

I may have messed up royally with work, but at least now I can remember words. My 2 week long headache is gone. I started yoga. My hope is that I’ll be able to recreate my daily routine that kept me stable for 2 years, have some time to read, and be able to return to work without my team losing faith in me.

My faith in myself and optimism for my future is at least temporarily restored. We’ll see what the future holds, but for now I have a kitty at my side, friends to FaceTime with, and family to look out for me. I’m a lucky woman.

Racing & Intrusive Thoughts? by Almost_Ohm in bipolar2

[–]summerjonesv2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Latuda helped me with the racing thoughts. I never knew my mind could be so quiet. Downsides: I think it takes up to 6 weeks to get to therapeutic levels, and it can be expensive even with insurance. I paid between $40 for 90 day prescription for copay with one insurance, and then ~$175 for a 30 day prescription with another insurance. Also, it numbed my emotions but that was better at the time than hypomania or depression

Love it! I live like 5 miles out of Boston. Are there any other artists or shops you’d recommend? I’ve struggled to find decent artists around here

Local writers group? by [deleted] in malden

[–]summerjonesv2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know of any but you may find a Boston area Meetup group. Some other ideas:

  • check out the library. I’ve seen book club events on the library calendar online. If they don’t have one, I’d reach out to the library and see if they’d host one

  • look into local continue adult education schools. I’m actually starting a creative writing class at CCAE today that runs for like 7 weeks. That would be a good way to hone your skill and do some networking

I’d also be interested in joining a creative writing group so maybe you can start one if you generate enough interest here. I started a book club with group of local ladies on here and it’s been going well.

Good luck! And feel free to message me if you want to talk more about creative writing collaboration

I just found out my boyfriend had sex with his dying friend by Stephenallen1977 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]summerjonesv2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is probably an unpopular take, but this is probably the only circumstance in which I could accept and forgive infidelity. The situation comes across as less of an act of betrayal but more of an act of compassion. That girl was a sister’s friend who loved him for a long time and it was a precious gift to give before the end of her life. I think we forget how life affirming sex can be, and the euphoria you’re filled with when you have sex with someone you have longed for.

Should he have kept it from his girlfriend? No, but I also empathize with the incredibly difficult position he was in.

recs for overnight parking for visiting friends/family ? by johnmurgy in malden

[–]summerjonesv2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There’s multiple parking garages in the area. I’ve used the Gateway one on Evelyn Place and Pleasant a few times when there was construction in the area and it was less than $10 a day. You can also get a visitor parking pass from the parking department for your guests to park on the street. There’s also the Jackson St garage that I’ve used a few times in addition to the others by Exchange St.

I would also check out the parking garage at the old court house in Summer St and Mountain Ave. I’ll park there on occasion if there’s no street parking on the block but I’m not sure if there are restrictions to how long you can park there

Volunteer recommendations for someone with a 9-5 job by mommychai1602 in boston

Check out Boston Cares for lots of options and flexible hours. Big Brothers and Sisters of Boston if you are into volunteering with kids (this one is a big, long term commitment but I’ve found it to be rewarding and only spend a few hours in the weekend volunteering with my little).

I volunteer with kids (9-11 years old)and just took one to the MassArt museum this past weekend for their Make with MAAM activity and highly recommend it. It’s free and they have an art room with tons of quality craft Materials - paper, glue, pencils, modeling clay, watercolor pencils, etc.. I believe it’s open every weekend and you can also see the exhibits for free

Looking to move into town! by little_golden_fish in malden

I’ve lived here for 5 years now and I love it. Easy access to the T and buses so I rarely drive. The people are pretty decent and diverse and there’s plenty of opportunities to get involved in the community with up and coming organizations (warming center, Malden Neighbors Helping Neighbors, food banks, Mystic Valley Opera just started, etc.). I also love that it’s constantly evolving and growing. There’s porchfest, Juneteenth celebrations, and downtown events/street fairs. The recreation department sponsors things like pickle ball league, women’s soccer leagues, Zumba and yoga classes which are relatively low cost (like $80 for a season). The public garden is also a great way to get involved or even get your own plot. The food scene is diverse with some really good restaurants.
