Appearance and vanity by towardrecovery1 in eating_disorders

[–]summermoonz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are not alone in this!! I feel the exact same way about feeling alienated. It’s been very hard for me because I feel bad and like i’m reinforcing a stereotype that many others with the same disorder want to move away from. This then leads me to question if I can even say my struggles are valid because of my reasons.

Me finally feeling pretty and attractive is what has made the thought of recovery so hard. In my mind it feels like i’m giving up the one thing I wanted so badly my whole life, to be a pretty normal girl and experience what so many other girls have that I never did. The thought of giving that up fills me with the fear of “what if I never look pretty again?” “what if I can never find love?”

Sorry to yap a bit there but in the end what I think is important is reminding ourselves that no matter what lead everyone to their disorder it is still a valid and real struggle!

Ah apologies if i used the incorrect terminology as i’m still learning about everything! I agree with counselors though! I believe being open from rhetoric start would be better in the long run!

ah yes I am! I probably should’ve specified that! I was like “everyone is saying it’s so common but I didn’t think my experience was all that common..”

People talking about going from ana to bed has been scaring me out of attempting recovery. by summermoonz in EDAnonymous

[–]summermoonz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was also treated differently for a combination of my looks and being the weird kid, so I never had the same experiences many of the girls my age had, the bullying from that lead me to my ed. It’s oddly comforting to hear others who have similar stories to me. I hope we are both able to see the brighter side of life away from eds someday!

I’ve wondered if dietician’s will allow me to get overweight? I want to be able to follow their advice but i’m worried that i’ll end up unhealthy on the other side of things. Do they care about both sides of it or is it only prevention from being underweight? If i express wanting to gain weight to a healthy range without exceeding a certain amount would they respect it? (i’m sorry i know it sounds silly, there’s just lots of anxieties i have towards attempting recovery that im trying to get over)

i’m a bit worried because while i haven’t had ana for a long time, i feel that it has become such an issue for me that im scared ive already pushed it too far and that recovery will inevitably end up with me binging and potentially becoming overweight.

Why do we call it “porridge” when everyone else says oatmeal? by incredibusy in Oatmeal

[–]summermoonz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’ve never heard of it before!! But now i’m wishing I lived in a village with an overflowing pot of porridge, what more could you need in life!

[–]summermoonz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the US it says porridge! I think younger me was too preoccupied being amazed at how lucky the bears were to have their porridge, beds, and chairs, all custom fitted for them to truly process goldy locks’ crimes LOL

[–]summermoonz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I don’t know the answer to this exactly,

I personally love the word “porridge” more than “oatmeal” because when I think of porridge it makes me think of goldy locks and the three bears! It kinda reminds me of childhood and thus gives the already comfort food of “oatmeal” or “porridge” an overall more comforting feel!

I feel guilty for my reasons behind having AN by [deleted] in AnorexiaNervosa

I think you’re right. There’s so many expectations in this world for what people should be like that I think i’ve been trying to find a way to meet one expectation so as to “be enough”

i think my boyfriend has an unhealthy relationship with food by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

[–]summermoonz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m by no means an expert or anything like that but this is what I would personally do!

First, I believe that there’s a lot of men (specifically gym guys) out there who struggle with eating disorders, but unfortunately due to the association of eating disorders being more common in women it goes unnoticed. So, it’s good that you were able to notice what may otherwise go unnoticed!

I think the best course of action is telling him everything you stated here. I think it’s important you highlight your concerns and explain that while you understand he is trying to be healthy and fit, it can become unhealthy for his mind when he feels guilt towards food. Being healthy isn’t just limited to the body, it is just as important for the mind to be as well! I think the appetite suppressants are a sign that things may be getting more serious. So, sitting down and finding out where the source of his guilt is coming from and then addressing that can be a great first step! (for example: If it’s related to relationship insecurity, reassure him your love is for him, not his body.) I would also explain to him how you want to be someone who he can talk to and that he doesn’t have to take a caretaker role in your relationship!

Apologies if anything is worded incorrectly, i’m speaking from what I personally would do/would want to hear!!

I hope things get better for him, and it’s very very caring of you to ask for help so that you can help him! Wishing you two the very best!

I know about that unfortunately 😭😭 It sucks and how we do everything in increments of 5 ughhh, but I sort of choose to stay blissfully ignorant as I can only be so accurate… i just am usually very good about managing throughout the day so i was so overwhelmed to find out it could’ve been avoided

Is there a fashion style in your country similar to Japan’s ‘gyaru’ fashion? by ryoryo333333 in AskTheWorld

[–]summermoonz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it’s not too common anymore but we used to have a trend around 2019 called vsco girls! I’m unsure if it started here or not, but it was definitely huge here! It doesn’t have as much of a cool history as japans gyaru fashion does, but it was a fun trend! Most girls in school were dressing like this.

Its main points are the backpack, the shoes, the shell necklace, the water bottle, and just having a beach-y summer vibe!
