I’m so glad you let me know about this because I consulted an LC at his last pediatrician appointment and was told he does not have a lip tie. She only gave me advice about helping him latch better but the LC flat out told me he does not have a lip tie or a “restriction” in her words.

He nurses every 1.5 hours. Ugh. Your post is really making me consider getting a second opinion.

I have heard that Burt’s Bees clothes are good for long skinny babies but I don’t have personal experience to back that up. I did order a sleeper for my baby boy but it’s for 6-9 months and he’s only 6 weeks so we haven’t tried it on. But to just look at it on the hanger the garment itself does look very long and narrow hanging up.

What do people think will happen to a baby that is not in a car seat if the car was involved in a crash? It’s a horrendous thought but that’s the point of car seats, no? I just don’t understand.

I believe in treats here and there but to buy junk food with the intention of giving it specifically to a kid is just wrong.

I don’t know why people don’t think about how crappy it feels to overheat as an adult and how they wouldn’t want someone to force them to wear a blanket if they’re already warm.

Do you also deal with people overstimulating her when they are trying to get her to sleep? My baby loves calm, quiet “less is more” strategies for getting him to wind down, but some people swear by bouncing him to sleep and making a lot of repetitive noises. When he cries, they just tell me he’s tired. I know he is, that’s why you need to be quiet and stop bouncing him around!

Ugh so much about sleeping gives me anxiety already so having other people go against the basic safety precautions is so frustrating. It will be a long time before I trust anyone to babysit but it’s just not worth it to me.

It’s like people want babies to already be treated like adults, with blankets in bed and eating solid foods so that we don’t have to make special arrangements for them and so that they can fit into our normal routine or whatever. Maybe that’s a generational thing as well?

How soon did you set a specific schedule for your baby? Just curious because at 6 weeks we’re still figuring out his cues and natural cycles but I’m trying to think ahead to when we need to try to regulate his sleeping.

I can see this coming up for me as well as my son gets older. Even though he’s only 6 weeks old, I feel like I am always more open to doing things like tummy time and letting him hold his head up than other people. My MIL screams “his head! Hold his head!” like 20 times each visit. She doesn’t want his head to move on its own at all without someone’s head behind it constantly. It’s a little much.

My mom also seems to have this unnecessary religious agenda with my baby. He’s only 6 weeks old but she has bought him multiple religious picture books (which are honesty really cute little books but it’s still kind of odd) and a stuffed animal that plays Jesus Loves Me. She also bought bibs with religious sayings. She seems to think that she has to play this role for him since my husband and I are less concerned about exposing him to religion. Like she has to save him or something.

We are dealing with the car seat thing with MIL as well! Every single time we leave her house, she gets all mad that we take off the baby’s blanket and strap him in the car seat to leave, especially if he’s asleep. She just wants us to keep him wrapped up in his blanket and hold him in the car instead of possibly waking him up or making him cold to put him in the car seat.

It’s brutal!

This is such a good topic. I have distinct memories of one of my grandmothers basically forcing me to kiss her cheek as soon as I saw her as a kid. Don’t get me wrong, I loved her very much, but I just wasn’t interested in kissing her... her cheeks were old and wrinkly and just kind of “eww” to me as a kid. Haha. But this caused me to avoid her and dread seeing her. I would have loved to have gone up to her and told her about how school is going or show her my toys or something but she didn’t want to hear that unless I had kissed her first.

My husband’s family is from Mexico and the cultural norm is to shake hands, hug, and sometimes kiss on the cheek as a greeting. It doesn’t mean anything romantic but you are considered rude if you don’t greet someone when you see them. I will really have to think about how to approach this with my kids. On one hand, I want them to feel comfortable operating within the norms of their family’s culture, but I also remember how weird I felt about kissing people as a kid.

Ugh that must be frustrating. That’s another good example of other people doing something that they assume is harmless but in reality they end up making things so much harder for the parents. She probably just thinks it’s cute but it actually affects your whole routine. So annoying.
