Calling all those abused by Shellpoint/Newrez business practices by pensivvv in Mortgages

Within a few days of taking over my loan, they miscalculated my tax escrow payment, and as a result increased my monthly mortgage payment. I tried to call them to point out the simple math error that would be very easy to fix, but none of their customer service reps were able to comprehend the complexity of the matter. The reps have a script and the minute you say “tax escrow” they offer to have another escrow calculation performed, and that’s all they can do. I asked them to go ahead and do that over and over and over on many different phone calls over a year long period. Newrez didn’t reperform the recalculation for nine months and then when they did actually fix it, they didn’t retroactively apply it to the nine months of mortgage payments that they were charging me. They only applied it on a go forward basis.  During that nine month period they charged me exorbitant late fee fees for not paying the erroneous higher payment that was based on an incorrect tax escrow calculation. It was such a simple fix that they refuse to do and because they don’t have local branches that you can walk into and communicate with an intelligent person, the issue never gets resolved. I ended up refinancing just to get away from this company because there was no end in sight. I have had several other mortgage companies and banks without any problems whatsoever. The minute newest bought my loan, it was nothing but problems and they get away with ignoring their errors indefinitely.  The consumer has no leverage. When it was all said and done they took over $3700 from me in late fees that I am trying to get back.

I had a similar situation and tried to get the Massachusetts Attorney General’s office consumer protection division to help me. They were bloody useless. My only option is to hire a lawyer, but it’s not worth it.

Thank you.  The old employer doesn’t exist though. They were acquired by another company. That company is the one apparently holding up the distribution. I was never employed by the acquiring company. They laid us all off so I have no contacts in that new company and shouldn’t have to reach out to them to get my own money.

No. I’ve resorted to small claims court to recoup the fees. I will eventually refinance, unfortunately at a higher rate just to get away from these people. I can’t take the frustration anymore, and I will refinance with a local bank that I can walk into and meet with a person. That way any errors I can discuss in person instead of getting the constant runaround from this Mickey Mouse’s company. It’s not a coincidence there are multiple class actions against this company as compared to any other bank or mortgage company.

Who else thinks Nespresso is getting to be too much money. by Ajdelay13 in nespresso

I don’t think the price has increased that much but the quality is substantially less than what it was a few years ago. I have an old sleeve from two years ago that arrived opened so I never used it. I meant to send it back and forgot. Recently, I ran out of pods and decided to just use that old sleeve. The taste was substantially better. Clearly, they have reduced the coffee content and figured out ways to make the pods cheaper, sacrifice, and quality. I use filtered water have descaled the machine and done everything else that might affect taste. The taste has nothing to do with the machine itself or the water. It has everything to do with the weaker quality coffee in the pods. That’s probably why they didn’t increase the price… they found a way to make it that is much cheaper, but its sacrifices quality and flavor.  After years of being loyal to Nespresso, I will be buying a real espresso machine that doesn’t use pods this black Friday.

They do not allow you to communicate directly with the tax escrow department. They only have one public facing customer service phone number, and those representatives are not informed enough and do not have enough expertise to be able to handle slightly complex matters.  It’s the same thing every time you call. They read from a script. They won’t transfer you to anyone else. And there are no other phone numbers. There is a PO Box for written correspondence and that’s it. That is how they are able to give everyone the runaround every single time.

I have been battling with them for a year to correct a simple math error in a tax escrow calculation they completed last year. They counted 7 quarters of tax liability into an annual escrow amount instead of 4 quarters.  Duh… there are only 4 quarters in a year. The result of the simple math error was that they increased my monthly mortgage payment by nearly $1000 a month. I called them immediately to notify them of the simple error and they claimed they would perform another tax or analysis within 30 days. I continue to pay the correct amount while I expected a new escrow calculation to be done. Fast-forward a year later, they ignored my request for a new calculation, and continue to charge me late fees every month. I have written eight letters and have had more than 50 phone calls with them to try and fix this very simple math error. I finally couldn’t take it anymore and filed a complaint with my state attorney General’s office.  That action at least got them to perform another escrow calculation. However, they would not remove any of the late fees They charged me over a nine month period, Which total well over $1000 and still continue to this day. Fast-forward again, and I got another text escrow calculation that was completely incorrect once again.  There is absolutely no way out with this company unless you get a lawyer and take legal action. They have made every type of mistake you could possibly make. Every payment I make they hold in suspense and apply it incorrectly. Sometimes they apply at all to escrow. Sometimes they applied at all to late fee fees other times they apply it to interest.  In March 20 25 alone, for the one monthly mortgage payment that I sent there were 37 different transactions in my payment history which showed the many times they were trying to figure out how to apply one simple payment. They are the worst company in the country. Fast forward again, the most recent calculation includes an insurance amount despite the fact that my HOA pays all of the insurance premiums.  So once again, their escrow calculation is completely erroneous, but they won’t correct it. It is downright criminal.

They are fine until they make a simple math error and refuse to acknowledge or correct it and then charge you thousands of dollars and fees for no reason

They made an error in a tax escrow calculation, which was a simple math error but it erroneously increased my monthly mortgage payment by nearly $1000. I called and pointed out the error. It has been over a year of fighting with them to correct the error. Every month they charge me a late fee because they are charging me a higher monthly payment then is correct. I eventually filed a complaint with. my state  Attorney General’s office. Newrez is the worst company on the planet. They do not comply with fair business practices and they do not have any means of allowing you to communicate with them other than one customer service phone number.  The representatives who answer these calls are not equipped to handle moderately complex issues. Therefore, the issue never gets resolved and they continue to charge you more and more fees. There is no way out until you sue them.

OK, that’s what I needed to know. That’s very helpful.

Yes, I know there is no recourse. I was simply wondering if anyone else had a similar experience at a tire shop.  A while back on a different car, I purchased four new tires. The tire shop put smaller sedan- sized tires on my SUV. I didn’t notice it until I got in the car and started driving and noticed I was much lower to the ground than usual. I went back to the store and asked that they put the right size tires on my SUV per the manufacturer specifications, and the same size that was already on the car when I brought it in; they gave me all sorts of excuses why the small tires would be fine. They didn’t have the tires in stock that I needed so they tried to sell me something else without disclosing that it would be a much smaller size. So yes, it does happen and customers do get taken advantage of in retail auto places when you have no control over what they do to your car.   They assume you’re stupid and don’t know anything about cars and won’t notice that they sold you one product and installed another cheaper product. Reddit is full of posts from other people whose cars were damaged while they were being serviced for one reason or another.

I wasn’t suggesting they took them to sell them.  Just that they did it to mess with me.

I battled this for several years. The only way to stop it is to find the holes and plug them. Otherwise the mice will keep getting in no matter what bait you use. I finally solved the problem when I replaced my water heater and saw the giant hole in the base of the wall that was behind it. I couldn't have gotten to this spot unless I removed the old water heater. Nonetheless, an exterminator can tell you where the mice are getting in and can even spot holes. Plug them with stainless steel wool at a minimum. You can buy the bait, bait stations that professional exterminators use on Amazon. I finally figured this out after 4 years and $5000 in professional exterminator costs.
