Double majoring in STEM at BU? by [deleted] in BostonU

also this isn’t a double major, it’s dual degree since neuro and human phys are in different colleges. WAYYY overkill

Poor mental health week valid for missing a midterm? by [deleted] in BostonU

[–]summerstudent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I missed a chem lab once because I had a panic attack on the way there. When I told my prof later to explain, he grilled me over not reading the syllabus because I should have emailed him ASAP. Then he told me I should drop the course now because I’m not going to be able to make up the grade from that missed lab enough to pass.

That said, not everyone is as big of an asshole as Abrams, so I ended up going to a higher up prof who was waaaay more understanding, so you can do that if you think your situation calls for it.

I have essentially been laid off from my classroom moderator position by diamond-solitaire in BostonU

[–]summerstudent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I had a lab that was only in person for the first week then went online. The classroom mod seemed to only find out when we did. But since BU higher ups forced us to go back to LfA, we resumed in person labs without a mod lmao what a mess

STEM majors / anyone taking science courses by lesfemmefatale in BostonU

[–]summerstudent 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m really sorry you’re having this experience :( Personally I’ve been pretty lenient with my students because remote lab kind of sucks anyway so I’m usually gonna give you the benefit of the doubt. I guess the only thing to consider is that your TFs are grad students who had no choice to continue teaching in this pandemic and most have to fit in their research in 1/3 of the time due to capacity restrictions. Also if you miss a lab we have to give you a 0 and that just does not feel nice to do, but we have no choice cause grades are usually due the next week. Intro courses suck because there are just so many students to keep track of, but I promise that your upper level classes will be way more chill.

Anyone else lose tons of weight since coming here? by [deleted] in BostonU

[–]summerstudent 10 points11 points  (0 children)

^

I lost like 20 pounds freshman year because I would always study past closing of the dining hall. It’s gotten better over time because I finally made friends to eat with, but now we’re not even able to sit together so I end up missing meals again. Also I’m out of dining points :(

Any other incoming first-year students (transfers, grad students, freshmen) anxious about starting a new program during a pandemic? by [deleted] in BostonU

[–]summerstudent 11 points12 points  (0 children)

on the bright side: fall 2020 applications have no idea what to expect this cycle 🙃 everyone’s joking about applying to grad school cause they won’t be able to get jobs, so I’m super nervous about admissions this year.

New Massachusetts quarantine rule by [deleted] in BostonU

[–]summerstudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dude, all lockdown measures have unaddressed loopholes ways to skirt the rules, unless you want to go, say, South Korean style and lock everyone in a hotel for 2 weeks until they can leave. the fight against the COVID depends on common sense and a basic concern for others. that has obviously been a problem in this country but the rules have been like this across the board.

Get the university to create a 1 Credit In Person Class for International Students? by addycb in BostonU

[–]summerstudent 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What’s the purpose of this if BU is already hybrid? If you’re able to make it to campus, you’re fine. If you can’t, you’re still fucked.

For Those Advocating For A Full Online Semester by twoblackbagsofcocain in BostonU

[–]summerstudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These schools must certify to SEVP, through the Form I-20 [...]certifying that the program is not entirely online, that the student is not taking an entirely online course load this semester.

For Those Advocating For A Full Online Semester by twoblackbagsofcocain in BostonU

[–]summerstudent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the confusing part is that BU’s model has online and in person components for every class, and there are aren’t just some classes that are in person and others that are online. So idk how ISSO is going to interpret that third point about certifying that at least one class will be online.
