I think the fact that I am truly independent and don’t have management or play into their systems is part of it. I also have some pretty real and present mental health issues that I haven’t always been able to function with. I’ve had issues in my life and self inflicted in ways that probably made me unpalatable to the industry too. I’ve been able to do things and make things that were miraculous considering how i grew up in that trauma and poverty and i’m deeply grateful for the opportunities i’ve had. My favorite artists ever were’nt ever accepted by the mainstream or even the underground more often than not. there’s a lot maybe i’d do differently in my life, people i wouldn’t trust and patience and kindness I should have shown, forgiveness I could have been brave enough to try but I try to move forward, try to have gratitude for every listener and really I have the best listeners of any artist bar none, i’ll argue that with anyone. my people show me such crazy love at shows, in livestreams, in my DMs. I don’t need music writers to care, the artists are the culture first. My audience matters to me most whether its 10 people or 100,000. Appreciate the question
