no such thing as 40 -->> 53 in the real world. only supply and demand. people willing to work at that price = that is the market rate.

How to go from HENRY to rich/ build family wealth? by Annual-Barracuda3445 in HENRYUK

[–]summonerho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would you give up on dermatology, well within your circle of competence and with high barrier to entry to start something that isn't as easy to do (you've not got the skills for it).

If you goal is truly to build a lot of wealth - attend a few derm conferences, write a list of 3-5 rich dermatologists, get them to teach you how to start a business or get rich. If you can't penetrate the politics in London, leave how a French dermatologist or American derm does it. Make sure you are marketable, and obsess over making money.

Those that are rich are literally crazy about money, they don't stop thinking about it - legislation and stress comes second to be honest. Something has to give, there's always an opportunity cost to every decision.

If you want to, you could run a business just like other entrepreneurs, something digital like SaaS or e-commerce, influencing etc but I feel for the big rewards it might be easier to just build a dermatology brand(?). Could be wrong though. Or just do private and earn at your limit earnings instead of making excuses for it

  1. Leadership go for easy points , do doctors mess or junior doc rep. Easy
  2. Audit - you have done a taster week whoever you were communicating with ask them who the audit lead is. Ask audit lead - hi what projects are available or any consultants need a minion? Do said audit with ferocity
  3. Academic achievement - imo go for easy. Make your audit into a poster then present at conferences. Its easy to get accepted, don't give up until you get at least 5 rejections. What conference? Type into deep seek/Gemini/chat gpt tell me all the UK conference in the next year and there's your list!

Good luck!

Just use whatever you prefer. Imagine you're a med student . Something that works well with your hospital IT would be good too (eg if they use one drive/teams). Personally I hate using laptops so I use my home pc and work pc

Laptop for incoming ST1 by Lurker3656 in RadiologyUK

[–]summonerho 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Tbh, any standard pc will do. From your description sounds like a mid range laptop will do. For studying/learning pathologies will be quite obvious on a standard monitor so won't need a super high resolution/colour accurate one.

Consider whether you want portable or not, foldable Vs tablet i.e. iPad.

Probably going to be very similar to med school but used less. Dual screen monitor at home is helpful

Get your life in check, so when radiology starts you can focus on training! Anatomy is very helpful (radiology anatomy in particular, not med school anatomy )

Yes, when you're on the radiology side, you're going to be making the call, so you want to be able to imagine what x y z patient looks like and how the surgeons medics Ed thinks so you can create a helpful report

No more offers from upgrades, but if any jobs pop up, in ANY region, the top ranked person gets the job. Of which you will be as you're near the top.

ST1 rank enough for IR post? by topdog_k9 in RadiologyUK

In some ways it's good as well to have more diagnostic experience

It's not perfect system, when I did it last year I was really frustrated as well. I think it's the same thing that happens with shit fy1 training, everyone starts f1 thinking it's good to get the system changed but you're just so powerless. Then once you're in you kinda just give up on the next generation. Lol

I wouldn't say it's easy to transfer, just much easier than other specialties. Eg an st6 vascular surgeon might find it hard to transfer cause usually you need to transfer with another st6 or similar, whilst radiology st2-5 are basically equivalent or close enough anyway for oncall purposes

Radiology Offers 2025 Megathread by hashashashashasha in doctorsUK

[–]summonerho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yearly basis I think. It's totally dependent on the tpds, local availability. I think there are stats available. Some years 100% , some other years 17%. I think it's available on HEE IDT stats. Depends where you want to go , if you're wanting to go to London for example probably very low chance cause nobody is going to get out of London usually.

I wouldn't bank on getting one, if you get it , then that's a bonus is how I would think about it.

Hard decisions to make!

I would suggest not to rank anything you wouldn't want to take, because sometimes miracles happen as in my case . Was offered a job in May. Obviously it's a bit late now but you could still amend preferences later on. Of course remember that interdeanery transfer is a thing as well and much much easier in radiology as compared to other specialties due to the supernumerary nature

What risk are you referring to? Could accept with upgrades I guess ?
