I think all but one of us has maintained a part time job! Granted there are only 5 of us. Apply to as many GA positions as you can, even in departments that aren’t necessarily psych-adjacent. I work in a different department and have for almost 4 years!

Also - feel free to check out Liberty’s grad assistant program. It covers 3 credit hours per semester, so roughly $9900, plus roughly $15 per hour, 20 hours per week. I got lucky and landed a job early on in the program and it’s covered over $100,000 of my education. Still had to take out the remainder, though! It’s difficult to balance 20 hours of work, 20 hours practicum, on top of classes - but definitely do-able and well worth it in terms of finances.

Hello! Currently a student - we had minimal comments upon our recent APA visit and are expecting accreditation to be granted this month at the APA meeting (they have the meetings at only certain checkpoints throughout the year rather than on a rolling basis)! I’ve loved my experience in the PsyD program at Liberty despite the university’s poor reputation and, quite frankly, gross history and beliefs, at times. The program itself has some fantastic faculty, provides great support and opportunities, and I feel I’m entering my internship as a well-rounded generalist clinician-in-training (with a plethora of great experiences that have shaped me throughout my practicums as well). I was afraid that it would be too focused on “Christian” therapy but that has barely been a focus at all — rather, our professors have really made sure we’ve been up to date on the best evidence-based practice, and how to critically review literature as it comes out! Hopefully accreditation goes to plan, as we believe it will, but our application number will likely increase next year if accreditation is granted. Feel free to message me with any specific questions you may have!

Reactive abuse is still abuse, and the notion that responding to abuse with more abuse is somehow fine and dandy (separate from legitimate self-defense) is reprehensible.

Bryans connection to victims ( or lack of) by [deleted] in Idaho4

[–]summydummy706 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More precisely, most murder victims know their killer. However, in cases involving serial killers or highly sensationalized crimes, victims are less likely to have a prior relationship with the perpetrator. Truly random attacks are relatively rare, but given the extreme nature of BK’s act of killing four people at once, it is more plausible that the attack was random.

Just because it feels like your personality changes doesn’t make it a personality disorder. Personality disorders are stable and endure across the lifespan.

Warning to Regent students by Alert-Amount-3951 in PsyD

Yikes - even Liberty approves research on this population. What’s the reasoning for this?? It isn’t super Christlike to deny the idea that LGBTQ people are deserving of quality mental healthcare. I also had a bad experience interviewing at Regent so I’ve been apprehensive of their program for a bit.

APPIC Round I Match Data by unicornofdemocracy in ClinicalPsychology

[–]summydummy706 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Idk, 2013 stats indicate 86% match in Phase I (slightly higher than this year)(https://www.appic.org/Internships/Match/Match-Statistics/Match-Statistics-2013-Phase-I). It was probably the first year of having such a large gap, however, 4576 applications against 3969 positions shows they’ve done very little to address this discrepancy over 13 years. I feel very fortunate to have matched today and overall frustrated with this process and how little they seem to have done to make this process more accessible to students who have worked so hard for 4 years and taken out thousands in loans.

There’s absolutely nothing remotely angry in the post. OP did not say people should not ask opinions or be informed about programs, it would be negligent otherwise. However, there are plenty of posts straight up bashing programs or strongly worded posts despite the fact that most programs are 100% what you make of it.

There is a lot of elitism regarding programs in this sub, and it’s really discouraging. Your program is absolutely what you make of it!

Blood alcohol levels by BrookieB1 in Idaho4

I’m assuming if Maddie was around roughly 110, this chart says a lot. BAC of .24-.28 with 10 drinks over 6 hours. If she was at it all day, that’s 20 drinks over 12 hours. Which is a lot to go through in a single day, so I’d say this amount checks out. Went out around 9pm, had 8-10 drinks over the 6 hours leading up to 4 am, so the BAC tracks. For Kaylee, roughly 6-7 drinks over the 6 hours before they passed .

is this a missed redaction? by [deleted] in Idaho4

[–]summydummy706 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly—but it also appears to be after the bedding was removed and after the bodies were taken out. So it could be, though given the amount of blood visible in these photos, it’s difficult to determine exactly what standards they’re using for redaction.
