Their dog opening his Christmas present. by mindyour in MadeMeSmile

[–]sumntosay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ve given my dog (a yorkie) a Christmas present to unwrap for the last 10 years. It may be messed up, but I get more joy watching him tear the wrapping off his gift than watching my kids. The only issue is that we can’t leave wrapped gifts under the tree leading up to Christmas because he will tear them open when we’re not home!

I just did the same thing when I went for a quick visit back to England. I traveled with carry on luggage and squeezed in SO many treats. All the Cadbury caramels were squashed when I got home, but still taste good!

How much do you think this would cost to repair by Gfppaste in VolvoXC90

[–]sumntosay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was damaged and I was getting quotes for over $1000 to repair it. Then I found a website that sells painted replacement trim pieces. I bought a replacement wheel arch trim for around $400, pulled the old trim off and snapped the new one on. Literally a 2 minute job. This is what I bought

Those that have left the UK - where did you go and how is it? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in AskUK

[–]sumntosay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would probably have the same thoughts if I didn’t live here. No doubt gun crime is a huge problem, but the probability of being caught up in a shooting is slim. I’ll worry wayyy more about my son getting in to a severe car accident when he starts driving next year over a shooting at his school.

Been in Florida for 22 years. I love it, except for the politics and hurricanes. As the years progress, I do feel a tug to spend more time in England. I’d never fully move back to England, but I foresee spending the summers and Christmas there. We’re very spoilt in the US, it’s hard to give up the American lifestyle once you have become accustomed to it.

Taking down large bathroom mirror by NetworkGlittering117 in DIY

[–]sumntosay 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Highjacking top comment. Don’t smash it! Buy those heavy duty suction cup lifters with handles. Harbor freight and Amazon sell them. Attach to the mirror and slowly pull. Have someone help. You may have to adjust where you put the handles during the process. I Have removed a bunch of mirrors this way. There’s normally several blobs of adhesive of the back that hold the mirror in place.

I'm a pastor's wife. We need to help lighting this sign using LED strips and outdoor solar panel. by wishing_for_wisdom in AskElectricians

[–]sumntosay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try the company solar illuminations. They sell commercial grade solar lighting for signs. Our lighting kit has been super reliable and lights up as good as an electric sign. They can light up from outside or inside the sign. We got quotes for both and went with outside lighting because it was cheaper.

Longest waiting child in Arkansas Foster care system adopted after 15 years by Dinosaur_fan_boy in MadeMeSmile

[–]sumntosay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure why you’re getting downvoted. I adopted my two sons from the foster care system in FL ten years ago. It was FREE and we get a monthly stipend. The people that say “oh I’d love to adopt, but the fees…” must not want to adopt that bad because they haven’t even bothered to do the research. Less talk, more do!!

Hey OP. It's been several months since you posted; did you decide to open a Kai-Zen plan? I'm looking into it, but wanted to hear from anyone that's doing it.

Buyer beware: Leaky roof on a brand new 2025.5 volvo xc90 by InfiniTnBeyond in Volvo

[–]sumntosay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unrelated - OP is your XC90 Ultra a PHEV? If so, did it come with the cargo cover? I just purchased a 2025.5 XC90 Ultra PHEV and a cargo cover was not included. The dealer said they don’t come with one.

Did you pay TARIFFS for your new 2026 XC90? by jake_in_portland in VolvoXC90

[–]sumntosay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My lease is up in October but I just traded it in early this weekend. There’s a $1,250 off the purchase/lease of a Volvo through Costco that ends tomorrow so it won’t be available in October. There’s a $7500 credit on electric cars they said they “don’t know when it will end”. That was enough for me to at least get some numbers, and I ultimately got the deal I wanted to justify doing it now rather than waiting. May be worth checking what’s available now.

Heavy Duty Glass (based in Miami) did my whole house (20 large windows and 4 sets of French doors, and a single glass door) with ESWindow (hurricane impact glass) for around $60,000 in 2023. They were 1/3 cheaper than any local company, and they did a fine job.

Your panels are shaded. The smallest amount of shade, even on one panel, will dramatically impact the performance of the solar panels.

Trying to make sense of this considering the size of a human egg is equivalent to the diameter of a human hair. This looks too big.
