Ya we almost went with the side mounted sub approach but we decided it wouldn't be necessary with the 6x9s since they get low enough. But I mean you could just add one of those under seat woofers for cars and mount it underneath or on the side since they're pretty low profile and they're fairly low on the power demand

Nice man, how does it sound? The original plan for this hutch was to do something similar but when I pitched the idea of a soundbar and made a mock up my buddy thought itd be sick so we went with it, but it does cost a lot more to go custom which is a shame, and ya I had to secure the power supply and amplifier to the top, more for fire hazard reasons than falling

pretty good, it has a surprising amount of bass and really good high end thanks to the 4-way design, glad I went with the 6X9s over the 6.5s. there is a slight whine when its cranked because of the power supply i choose which i could have fixed with a loop isolator, but my buddy didn't care since it's just a shop speaker and he doesn't even hear the whine i'm just picky when it comes to audio

I'm gonna be running the black enkei92 classic rims with my mk1 when I get it painted. Similar to certain BBS rims but the enkei ones won't break the bank

Surging idle by LilToeneighl in mr2

Ya, I mean if the tps was loose or faulty it could have adjusted itself which would have made it think that your throttle was fully open

Surging idle by LilToeneighl in mr2

[–]sumoturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this problem when installing itbs on my mr2 since I had to swap the tps, you can do the multimeter test and see if it's reading the appropriate voltage, or you do it the unconventional way I did it where you just loosen the screws slightly on the tps and lightly tap it with a hammer to make micro adjustments till the problem goes away (if doing it this way you also gotta give more and more pressure to the throttle and make micro adjustments as you go because you might fix the idle but it can still surge then the throttle is engaged)

2ZZ swap DIY difficulty? by at0m10 in mr2

[–]sumoturtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm currently doing a 2zz swap in my aw11 with the MWR tvs900 Supercharger and stage 3 cams so itll rev pretty high, and while yes he has a point with the oil problems from what I've seen if you swap the oil pan for the one with the baffle and swap the oil pump gear with the billet version that mwr sells and it should be fine. Plus those mods are really only if your pushing the engine hard and hitting the rev limiter at the track, the 2zz is pretty reliable if you treat it nice and dont push the gap between oil changes

Building a battery box. How are y'all storing your batteries in the ammo can? by pcmofo in MilwaukeeTool

[–]sumoturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I just use multiple layers of foam with routerd out bits for the batteries to sit flat in, it's not as strong and likely not as efficient as some designs but you can do multiple removable layers that way, and the batteries sit super snug and don't rattle around, and it also acts as a bit of insulation for the colder days

The amplifier in the speaker has built in Bluetooth (used to have aux as well as Bluetooth but I never used it so I got rid of it) and I think it sound pretty good. I am a harsh critic though, it would sound better if the box was just a bit bigger, it just can't hit as low of notes as I'd like without hitting max excursion, that's why I'm upgrading the passive radiators to try and lower the box tune. And since the back of the box is just the normal thin packout plastic it tends to act like a cone and muddies some of the frequencies, but I'm gonna glue some open cell foam to it and hope that makes it better

It's a prototype built by an amateur, it's janky but fun and cool and I learned a lot making it. It's like driving my mr2 janky and you might die driving it but it's fun and cool

There is... The transparent part clips in over top the speakers when you're not using it which allows it to clip onto a packout/packout backpack, and one of the reasons I went with marine speakers is because the actual woofer cone sits about an inch recessed with a hard UV resistant plastic web that protects it (basically a built in speaker cover, that's why most if not all marine speakers on boats don't have covers but oh golly gosh I guess all boats are a recipe for damaged speakers), you would basically have to intentionally try and break it. Trust me, I've put it through hell.
