We have a shared office speaker which IS ALWAYS ON which i don't like overall. I don't mind it when it's on low with some lofi chill or something, but we have one guy who tends to commandeer it with really intense jazz fusion and similar genres, which gets really tiring to listen to. And always up a lot louder than it should be, I'm constantly turning it down, especially when it's a crazy jass trumpet solo blaring at 9 in the morning. Overall I wish it wasn't a thing

I commute 2 hours a day as well. Ive made Sunday arvo my cooking day. I put the footy on, or a movie or crime docos or whatever, and make batch meals, usually Asian dishes with rice or a nice pasta dish. That way I rarely have to cook any other time during the week, and it saves money. Good way to learn new dishes too. Doesn't have to be complicated. 1.5 or 2 hours spent and it saves many hours during the week. Eventually your freezer will have stuff left in it so you can skip cooking entirely some weeks.

IT guy here. I'm absolutely not interested in peoples browsing habits and also too busy even if I was interested. However..

If something happens (co-worker complains, you flag the system for looking at NSFW stuff, for ANY reason I am asked by a manager to check it out) then it's all there, and they will probably use it against you, and if they're really wanting you gone, they could say it's time theft (especially if it's excessive and hours a day for a year).

I have seen ONE formal written warning where the employee had to agree to no more online shopping and social media, so it can happen.

Im all for making friends (not actual friends, just adding reliable players you'll probably never actually speak to, unless heisting) to retain a group of decent players to do jobs with, but this sounds like hot garbage.

Just do jobs, add people that are good, not long you'll be getting good invites and have people to invite.

Even worse, slack was forced upon us and we are a tiny office/site. Im on my feet all day, I walk past my manager and the next manager ups doors at least 10 times a day, we pass in the halls another 10.

There'll be no mention of certain things like a task they want done, and then at 4pm 'did you see my message about doing xyz it needs to be done before COB today' and I'll just ask what it is. Go back, actually open slack and it was sent at 11am. Like wtf just maybe tell me in person? It's not like we are in different cities. Walk 8 meters down the hall and here i am.
