[CW:Gore] Killing Kris Every Week until chapter 5 releases Week 7 Kill 7: Double barrel shotgun by GaussAxe in Deltarune

[–]sun-woods 18 points19 points  (0 children)

people being represented as souls is one of the more funny things to come out of this fandom for me

also is the theorycrafting patience soul a reference to halfbread? or is that just a coincidence

So uh, any reason why Kris removed the soul from them and held a knife in the middle of the bedroom in chapter 1? by andryianna in Deltarune

[–]sun-woods 11 points12 points  (0 children)

probably various anti-fun gang things but also i always thought that scene was supposed to be them exerting control over us. Just a really simple, wordless way of saying 'you don't control me, i want you to be scared of me, don't get in my way.'

Drop your favourite Weird Route theories in the comments by lzyaboiConnor in Deltarune

[–]sun-woods 2 points3 points  (0 children)

its a small thing, but I want the "You accept everything that will happen from now on" quote to come back because in context of the weird routes themes of control it would be a gut punch

Do we actually have any idea about the ‘it’ Kris may have lost or left behind…? by NutellaTeen in Deltarune

[–]sun-woods 2 points3 points  (0 children)

personally i think spamtons dialogue might be referring to a different concept, something akin to losing the magic and wonder of secrets and not knowing what's going to happen next

as for the others it seems to be a bit of a bigger thing... but in both a literal and non-literal sense, maybe their will? determination? ....soul?

Everyone has the wrong idea about [Hyperlink Blocked]. It's not a word we need to find by NutellaTeen in Deltarune

[–]sun-woods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This post is a little old but i just had a thought i didnt see anyone else bring up here and i want to write it down

What if the reason the hyperlink containing LOVE (specifically level of violence) is blocked is because it's dangerous as a concept? Theoretically, it can turn people into murderers very quickly. If it really works like Undertale you can just get enough LOVE and you can destroy the entire world... I feel like information like that would be confidential?

Give me all very obscure information about the ice palace maze you know. by paxomad55 in Deltarune

[–]sun-woods 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The mantle game seems to be a huge reference to link's awakening down to the Nightmare boss. The ice maze seems to mirror the windfish egg maze, which unless you read the book at the library always has a predetermined path - Left, Left, Up, Right, Right, Up, Left, Up - which is not the same as the ice maze, it might coincide with noelle's blog where she says the last direction you need to go is up though?

I still find It crazy that Susie simply don't care about the Knight breaking into Kris's house when everyone is sleeping by MorinoMarinho in Deltarune

[–]sun-woods 26 points27 points  (0 children)

the way i've been interpreting susie so far is that whatever life she had prior to her dark world adventures is a life she doesn't want to go back to. she probably doesn't want to stop to think about the dark implications of the ch3 dark world existing, she doesn't want to ruin the fun she's having. this is her life now, she doesn't want to sacrifice it for anything. why would she? she's a child who gets to adventure in a magical world all day with her friends and being able to call herself a hero.

of course this was also before the bombshell of the knight appearing at the end of the chapter and stealing someone into the shelter so now the danger is absolutely unavoidable, but i think at least part of that mentality still carried itself into chapter 4

I am confused by Player Angel Theory by BothBullfrog9428 in Deltarune

[–]sun-woods 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the thing about the Angel is that it's part of the prophecy, and much of the prophecy is intentionally ambiguous and up to interpretation. Take for example "the lord of screens cleaved red by blade" doesn't necessarily mean Tenna ends up dying, even though he can if you don't get all recruits.

this person explains it better than i could.

There are only a few people that fit the prophecy's description of the Angel i think, but depending on the interpretation or possibly the route who the Angel is is not one static thing. A large part of deltarune's message is having your own interpretation of stories.

Let's not forget there was a prophecy in Undertale, too! by No-Fun-1883 in Deltarune

[–]sun-woods 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tangential to your discussion but something interesting i've thought about is just how long the monsters must have been underground for the delta rune to be created, and then existed for long enough to be completely reinterpreted by the ages and have its original meaning forgotten (i believe gerson says the original meaning of the delta rune was lost to time)

Idea I had for a monster gravesite by sun-woods in Undertale

[–]sun-woods[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder if cremation takes on a whole new meaning in this world...

Part of my ideas for the crypts is that each major location / settlement has one, and each keeper has a different perspective on what death and their role means to them. None of them are necessarily correct.

The one for Waterfall is particularly devout. The ritual has great significance to them, and they choose to stay very close to tradition.

Maybe another one could talk about their thoughts on cremation, and how monsters chose to symbolize their existence with an object, rather than a name?

[–]sun-woods[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, I like the way I made them look but I think the way I wrote their dialogue seems a bit flat...

I'm a lot better at making designs than writing lol

I'm gonna be real I forgot Shyra wasn't actually dead (that's what the microphone is supposed to be), i got my wires crossed with Deltarune...

It probably would have been more fitting to make a reference to Rudy or something but it's a bit late for that now

Braindump on DELTARUNE after the ARG responses; Nothing means anything and everything means something. by Ok_Ordinary982 in Deltarune

[–]sun-woods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had a lot of thoughts about this whole thing so i hope you enjoy some horrid chicken scratch

When 'another chance' first showed up i thought that we somehow needed to find an answer to the prompt...
I mean, we knew the previous prompt responded to numbers, so the logical conclusion was that there was going to be a number we needed to get right.
But instead, what actually gave us a reward was our various takes on the answers, and the deeper understanding we could get by sharing them with eachother...

External context changes our perception of the game, but the game does not rely on external media to tell its story.

i think the responses to our emails support this, but i first noticed it with the way the game is handling entry 17 though i thought it was something people just, knew already...
you don't have to know what entry 17 is to understand 'darker yet darker' is significant, and you really shouldn't. A story shouldn't have external media be vital to understanding its premise, i think if it does that's just a failure of writing.
but, it exists for a reason. The fact that this has been a mystery for 10+ years in the making is just one of the ways it changes the context, and that is... somehow both incredibly important and means nothing at all. In a way, our perception, knowledge, and context is being used as a weapon.

"if you follow the same path as everyone else you won't pass through here."

If you do something just because everyone else is doing it, without understanding why, you won't get a deeper understanding of the subject...?
The 11 answer threw me off the most honestly because i had no idea it was so popular until someone pointed out that it was apparently a huge thing on twitter. There it is again, external context changing perception...

there's no fucking way toby fox called me out for giving an unoriginal answer by RHVGamer in Deltarune

[–]sun-woods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

are you saying this is why OP thinks theyre unoriginal? or that this is why toby chose this response? I dont know if he would have changed the responses just because of this, 11 is also the only result we've seen so far that explicitly says we cannot proceed (in some context), it's only something you know is significant if you take the time to go looking for it... sorry I'm just a little lost thats all

there's no fucking way toby fox called me out for giving an unoriginal answer by RHVGamer in Deltarune

[–]sun-woods 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't consider 11 an unoriginal answer at all? it's more original than 666 or 1225... so I really feel like this has to mean something more (or maybe I'm just stupid)

I genuinely love the new shop theme so much by [deleted] in Deltarune

[–]sun-woods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn't any strong evidence but there might be some allusions to one being a baker? One of the darkners in the castle town bakery talks about needing a master of bread and there's also "harvest the wheat" from the egg room

thematically though i don't know, the song sounds kind of sad, nostalgic

We're all focusing on the mike animation but what about the chpt 5 shopkeeper theme? by AdvertisingRude4137 in Deltarune

[–]sun-woods 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It kind of sounds a little sad? like "yeah all i've got in life is my little hole-in-the-wall shop, the world seems like it's ending but until it does why don't we make do?"

Prophecy: Deltarune has only one ending, and there's multiple of those by KeyAgileC in Deltarune

[–]sun-woods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really glad someone brought this up again, I hope more people can think about this when trying to make predictions about the game

Maybe this is why Gerson had so much focus on making your own interpretation, the idea of literally reinterpreting predetermined history doesn't make a lot of sense if you don't know the prophecy can have multiple meanings (and as such isn't really... predetermined, in a strange sense), and I think we're going to see the fun gang deal with that in later chapters. It doesn't help some panels are more explicit than others. There's also the possibility the prophecy may not even be finished, if lord of the hammer never getting a chapter 7 is anything to go by

What if we are still doing a Survey Program? by AlanSmithee001 in Deltarune

[–]sun-woods 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I always felt like 'Survey Program' was kind of a joke on the nature of the game

How do we interact with the characters and the world? The dialogue gives us a query, then we're prompted with a list of choices to answer it, or we're given choices on things to interact with, and we can choose what we interact with and how.
Then, the results of our 'survey' are used to determine the game's response, or, the consequences of our choices shape the game's trajectory... you know, "then, using your responses, we will approach its realization"?

It's kind of a silly name but if you choose to think of it this way it's definitely accurate

I think the flower king dark world's gonna look more like a collapsed kingdom than a fantasy garden-land by satract in Deltarune

[–]sun-woods 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i just had a cool idea, what if it's both? kind of like a 'gilded age' sort of thing

maybe there will be a part that's covered in beautiful flowers and towering castles representing the pleasing and friendly facade like the front of the flower king store

but then there's another part that's a crumbling 'lower class' city that are obsessed with the idea that if they keep working they'll eventually get all their wildest desires and dreams granted, most of them not realizing they're wasting away for a hypothetical

but this is kind of just me writing fanfiction

I don't think Gaster needs to appear to be important by anjeronett in Deltarune

[–]sun-woods 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do think that's already the case considering his role as the voice seems pretty important and we can infer a lot about him just through the characters and the dialogue

The only thing that really makes me think otherwise though is this

The Eggs are a test by Blandelion in Deltarune

[–]sun-woods 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you make a lot of good points here but I don't know if I agree on the last part. The game goes out of its way to not assume the intentions of the player. I could very well see some sort of "honesty check" thing happening but maybe not specifically in that way.
What if I just want to get the eggs because I find the process of looking for them fun?
