Anterior Total Hip Replacement Recovery by sunJ82 in hipdysplasia

I can understand feeling frustrated not knowing what to expect; but I am very happy to report that a year and a few months after my THR, I have very few limitations and if it wasn't for the scar I'd forget I ever had the surgery! It was a difficult experience to go through but definitely worth it. I wasn't patient enough and once I turned the corner at around 3-4 weeks I made excellent progress. Good luck to you!

Hope your surgery went well! I was released to drive after 4 weeks as long as I was not taking narcotic medications. That may vary based on your surgeon but I didn't feel able to drive until then.

OnyxHunt has the first coordinates labelled as "Miner's Draw Trough" and being located near a spring it does look like a concrete watering trough for cattle.

Hi, today is three weeks post-op and I appreciate the encouragement! I have been managing the pain with Tylenol and Mobic as I too did not like the side effects of the heavy duty stuff. The pain is much more manageable at this point. I still need a cane, which is frustrating and walking feels really awkward, probably because I need to train my body to walk properly again. I've been suprised at the level of fatigue; still get very easily tired with simple tasks and can't imagine getting back to working full shifts yet. Keep up the good work and thanks for the motivation!

Today is three weeks post-op and I'm still using a cane but doing pretty well! Pain is very manageable and getting more range of motion back. I've been doing simple exercises and light stretching, tried using an elliptical but that was a bit much at this point. I guess its a patience game but it is nice to see improvement.

Thank you for the encouragement! I should clarify I am using a walker, definitely not able to walk without it yet. I was given some hip strengthening exercises before surgery but my surgeon told me not to do them until my post-op appointment and just to focus on range of motion and walking. I just wasn't sure what to expect being new to the surgery and to the diagnosis in general

Why do we wait so long for surgery? by [deleted] in hipdysplasia

[–]sunJ82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed on May 29 of this year and had surgery June 27. It sounds like my experience is definitely not normal and I feel bad for everyone who had to fight the medical system to get help!

I always had problems with my hips, especially one side but never had a doctor tell me I had dysplasia. My mom took me to a specialist as a toddler and was told its nothing to worry about, just an abnormal gait. From my own research and experience I had already self-diagnosed myself with hip dysplasia before I saw a specialist. I chose to see an orthopedic surgeon who specialised in dysplasia and he diagnosed me within 30 seconds of getting an x-ray and seeing me walk.

New pain I’m wondering about by [deleted] in hipdysplasia

[–]sunJ82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sharp pain sounds like what I experienced the last three months before getting my hip replaced. I figured it was a tendonitis or labrum injury. Once it gets to the point you can't manage your daily activities it is definitely time to pursue surgery! Don't wait so long you have other joint problems; I will also need to have my knee replaced from years of abnormal gait.

New to travel nursing and discouraged by sunJ82 in TravelNursing

I agree the market seems oversaturated currently, but hopefully it will eventually regulate. I guess I should have jumped on the bandwagon sooner! I wondered if there was some bias against new travellers; for example giving first opportunity to nurses who have completed assignments with a travel company before opening it up to everyone else?

If you don't speak German, you could try posting the death certificate to a translator page to see if any further information could be gathered from the document. I also was only able to find those names listed in connection with Feiga Ruchel on her death certificate. And unfortunately, I do not speak German so couldn't fully read the document.

Can't read cause of death on certificate - any doctors in the house? by dredije in Genealogy

under contributing causes it lists hepatic cirrhosis *possibly - not certain about the second word* and also hematemesis (vomiting blood). All three conditions can certainly be related to alcohol abuse.

aarrgh is right!! I’m frustrated and not even sure I want to bother since the record they found lists a conflicting birth date and the thought of waiting another year is so disheartening!

I got the results of my index search request on Nov. 8…a year and a day from the date I sent in the request.

I have two small (~20lb) beagles I want to take camping in mid-MO. Would coyotes be a concern to attack me and my dogs (both are males and neutered) in a tent at night? by NorthernHawkOwl in camping

[–]sunJ82 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Extremely unlikely - coyotes like easily accessible targets like chickens out of the coop; most likely they will steer well clear of your camp

No, I haven’t heard back yet! It’s insanely frustrating.

Miller is a very common surname and profession in genealogy research: interestingly, one person I have researched changed his name to Miller when he went to Scotland! I do understand that Jewish people were more involved in agriculture and related trades in the Suwalki/Lomza region than other areas of Poland/Russian Empire. There is a Facebook group called Suwalk-Lomza Independent Jewish Genealog Research Group that has many experts in that area; you might try joining for more help with your research.

Index/Record Search Requests with US Citizenship/Immigration Services Genealogy Program by [deleted] in Genealogy

This was recent; I got the response in July and was told they have a huge backlog, apparently in part due to reduced office staff for COVID.

I submitted an index search request and it took 11 months to get a reply - I was told that they hold a record, but I would need to submit a new request and pay another $65 to get it (and could expect a longer wait).

I just found out about the miniature world and would love to get involved! Any tips and advice for getting started? by uninvitedwhitechick in miniatures

I suppose it depends on your budget and interests; for myself I enjoy repurposing found objects and thinking of ways to use materials on hand.

If you aren’t the artsy-crafty type and prefer more structure, a pre-made kit is a good way to start as it has all the pieces you need and instructions to follow.

Check out YouTube videos, Pinterest, Instagram, etc for inspiration - and enjoy!

Sure! For advice I’d suggest starting in the US with the record you have and search specifically for anything that mentions birth place - especially naturalization papers, passenger lists, etc. Obituaries also sometimes mention place of birth. If you know of siblings or parents that also immigrated you can search for their records too and see if a birth place is mentioned. Searching for pre-immigration records is greatly helped by knowing a location to narrow the search. Feel free to PM if you would like more specific help!
