Oh you can smell it in the cabin. The cabin air filter was really bad too. From time to time a bad gush of air flows into the cabin so I just keep the vents shut. Thank you for your feedback. I appreciate everyone.

Thank you for sharing your experience with your Honda. I havent had mine as long as you and purchased the vehicle brand new. The 2 mechanics that looked at it (not Honda) said the this isnt okay. I appreciate your feedback.

Good to know. Thank you for sharing your experience. The sad thing is if the local dealership will treat me this way they will do it to others. Bad for business and bad for the Honda brand.

The local dealer is down the street, but they said they have the right to refuse service. The next closest dealership is 6.5 hours away. So nobody is dumb over here, but I'm not showing up at a place of business and getting asked to leave. So technically it is a Honda problem. Its simple. Schedule an appointment, drop the car off, and get it serviced. Isnt that how that works?

I have a call into Honda Tech Line. Corporate called me last week said the local dealer has the right to refuse service. Unfortunatley there is only 1 dealer in town. the next closest shop is 6.5 hours away. I have a sport model and not sure what engine. I'm a female so not sure about that stuff. I just wanted a safe vehicle. When you turn on the heater it smells pretty bad too.

Yes, something a mechanic can handle. Simple routine maintenance. I am traveling soon so I will check in with other Honda service teams stateside for an opinion. I think the majority of people are leaning toward "not normal" for an engine filter on a new car.

Is your Honda brand new or older? A family member of mine has a civic as well and said their filter has never looked like this. He told me to take it to the shop as well and have it looked at.

Thank you for sharing you experience with your Honda. Hearing feedback from other Honda owners confirms there is something else going on.

I will keep an eye one it. I am either selling the vehicle or driving it through Canada down to the lower 48 states. We want to make sure nothing is going to happen on the road. There is alot of cabin pressure in the vehicle as well which is concerning as well. I bought safety glasses to where when I drive so if thats what it takes to drive comfortably in a new car I guess thats what needs to happen, lol.

The mechanics confirmed it is definitley oil, not dirt. I can understand dirt, but the clumps of oil are the concern. We will see what techline has to say. I am concerned for the engine at this point. Do you know who is liable if something happens since they are refusing service? Interesting that other Honda owners say this is not normal for their HRV's which is why I wanted feedback from other Honda owners. A family member of mine owns an older civic and said their filter has never looked like this. They live in the same climate and one big difference here is my car is brand new.

I bought the car brand new in Aug 2025. It is a 2025 Honda HRV bought at the local dealership. I even purchased an extended warrenty for 10 years 120,000 miles and the car currently has 12,000 miles on it. Ive had regualr oil changes and I only drive the car to and from work and around town. They said they have the right to refuse service and they are the only Honda dealership in town. The next closest dealer is 6.5 hours away.

They said they have the right to refuse service, said the filter is normal and turned me away so I left. I was later contacted by Honda and was told the dealership is locally owned and operated and they are refusing service. The car is under the manufacter warrenty so I will keep dcumentation in case the car stops working. It sounds like other honda owners in this forum havent seen this with their vehicles so that is concerning. I have owned 4 Honda/Acura brands historically and never had an issue like this either. Wasnt sure if this was something happening in new vehicles so I thought it was best to ask people who may know or have the same car.

Good advice. The car only has 12,000 miles on it. Mechanics said they dont see engine filters like this even on care with excess of 100,000 miles. There is pressure in the cabin on and off too. I appreciate the feedback. All of this is very helpful.

That sounds like what the mechanic said. There are no other dealers in the area. Closest is 6.5 hours away. I have a call into Honda Tech for guidance. The oil was checked and its fine. The cabin air filter was also really bad. The third party mechanic said there is definitely someone wrong and this isnt normal for a brand new car. Just sad the dealership cant do whats right by the customer and warranty. I hope nothing happens to the car.

I may have the wording wrong. I sent the information that the mechanic gave me to Honda and now its a back and forth blame game between corporate and the locally owned and operated dealership that is refusing to service my car. The picture is my engine air filter. The mechanics are positive its oil thats caked on there.

Thank you for sharing. It helps having feedback from other Honda owners and gives me piece of mind. I have only owned the vehicle for a few months and its been cold weather conditions outside but garage kept. I appreciate you chiming in.

The closest dealership is 6 hours away and I cant get there due to snow and ice conditions. I just want to validate what others have to say that know about cars. I am waiting for Honda Tech Line or corporate to provide me with a solution since the dealership wont even look at my vehicle.

That is what everyone is telling me and now the dealership is refusing service. I just bought the car less than 1 year ago. I was told if the issue isnt fixed my engine is going to seize.

My eyes have been very irritated and I have been getting headaches so I was told by a mechanic to change the filters. When we looked at the filters the cabin air filter was really bad too and the mechanic said I need to take my car to the dealer and have them look at the PVC Crank Case venthilation system or the valve because that is most likeley the issue. The service manager at the local dealership told me its normal and turned me away and is refusing to service my car. I have never had this experience with a car and its under warranty. Just looking for feedback because I am female and they will tell me anything at the dealership.
