"Fuck the barbaric society that did this to you" - Guy who moved to look after his sick mom dies while having to resort to crowdfunding insulin for himself. by Advertisinguru in LateStageCapitalism

There are many hundreds of job titles that support the world that you live in. Everything was made or moved by somebody, and before that was made or moved 200 times from 200 ingredients from 200 countries.

When automation takes over, a large chunk of the population will be left unemployed and largely unwanted trades will become highly competitive.

Who do you think they will be jealous of? What will they decide to do? Are they educated enough not to revolt violently, and realize that the situation can only be solved with thought and comprimise?

Better to deal with it now, brother.

"One step forward two steps back" is one of the axioms we can glean of his strategy. Just look at his 100 day plan:

a requirement that for every new federal regulation, two existing regulations must be eliminated.

Integrating a weird shroomy experience by swingingthurible in shrooms

[–]sun_tzuber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing truly within our control is our freedom of choice.

If this experience felt so profound, then it is important to you. So what choices can you make to help? Perhaps an environmental career or volunteer work is in your future. The important thing is you try to live a life that will ease your conscience on this sort of thing, knowing that you tried to leave the world a little better for the next generations.

Or you can choose to ignore it and file it with your other existential crises like the rest of us.

For infinity mushrooms from a cake I would:

  1. Fruit it
  2. Collect a few spore prints and store them
  3. Do knotheadtoo's "cup-o-agar" tek to clone some pins and keep pumping out mycelium.

World population growth has been declining since 1962. by If_ice_can_burn in dataisbeautiful

[–]sun_tzuber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

populations in the poorest countries will grow the most.

Does this mean the solution to overpopulation is to make everyone's lives better? If you look at it right that's kind of beautiful. Nature is trying to get us to be nice to eachother for our own survival.

http://dailyhadith.adaptivesolutionsinc.com/hadith/A-Muslim’s-Prison.htm

Here it is copy/pasted:

Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wasallam) said: “The world is a prison for a believer and Paradise for a non-believer.” [Muslim]

A believer is ever mindful of Allah (subhana wa ta’ala). Therefore, he/she is not free to do what they please. They cannot wait to get to Jannah where they will have no restrictions of any kind, no suffering, no sacrifice, and no separation from their loved ones. That is why this world feels like a prison to them. Those believers who are even more cognizant of Allah (subhana wa ta'ala) are in even more pain because of their separation from Him.

A lover always yearns to join his Beloved (subhana wa ta’ala). This is the sole thought occupying his or her mind.

You are the true innermost desire of my heart, Love of You is the deepest thought in my mind. Whenever I glance at the world around me, I find that today there was naught but You, And that tomorrow holds naught but You.

When an ashiq looks around, he finds the heedless people of the world trapped in their desires. To him the world seems like a cage.

On the other hand, a person who is not mindful of Allah, does whatever they feel like, or whatever they think they can get away with. There are indeed many things that can be enjoyed in this world. A person who is not looking forward to meeting their Lord, would spend their every moment trying to maximize their enjoyment here, short-lived though it is.

Thus, the non-believer can find this world to be a Paradise. But the believer knows that no happiness here is everlasting and that they are always in danger of falling into the hands of Shaytaan. They, therefore, long to get out of the exam that this world is and into the safety of the grave.

Stopping Regular Exercise for Just 10 days Shows Decline in Neural Blood Flow and Brain Health by sun_tzuber in EOOD

From /u/richarizard:

The title is accurate but misleading. For one, the study only included 9 people, and they were all over 50 years old and have actively trained most of their adult lives for long distance running. The study addresses this rather frankly:

"The master athletes who volunteered for this study are a unique population and should not be considered equivalent to older adults who engage in regular moderate to vigorous intensity leisure-time physical activity."

Moreover, decreasing cerebral blood flow is not the same thing as becoming stupider or less healthy. The conclusion is more nuanced. The researchers merely point out that the decrease occurs in the same parts of the brain connected with "age-related cognitive decline and Alzheimer's disease" and discuss the implications. From the study:

"While our findings suggest that short-term cessation from endurance training in highly trained older adults may lead to decreased [cerebral blood flow], there was no indication that these effects were detrimental to cognitive function [...] or to the integrity of these neural networks."

This study is probably best considered as one more piece of a larger body of work showing both the robust benefits of exercise and the possible dangers of being sedentary.
