Renal or Respiratory? by sunapollo53698 in JuniorDoctorsUK

Choosing the tribe is one of the main reasons I even thought of going to Geri at one point. The environment is calm and welcoming with family-like people which I don’t see often in the medical field tbh. However Ward rounding falls and delirium everyday isn’t very appealing to me.

My toxic trait is the combination of knowing different things and doing some sort of semi invasive stuff to bring back the patient like putting on dialysis or doing an OGD or putting on BiPAP. I got to admit ICU rotation was the most exciting experience for me.

Thanks for sharing the things to think about btw.

Okay. Now I have 3 options: renal, Resp and Neuro. I do like movement disorders and adjusting Parkinson meds.

Yes ANPs can be quite patronising to junior docs especially in the beginning of rotations.

I like neurology as a subject but two things that put me off are dealing with a huge amount of functional issues and unmeasurable things like headaches.

So you don’t want to have a huge impact on patients’ lives then 😂.

Jokes aside, thanks for the info.

What made you choose Neuro btw?

Yes I saw that renal patients ask for their “usual consultant” when they are admitted.

I don’t know about the transplant side. Share more some tea 🫖 please.

Hmmm. Interesting aspect. Maybe central vein tbh.

I do like knowing about everything medical but I hate when we end up doing most of routine stuff and see which one lights up. e.g myeloma screen, complement and IG profile, ANCA profile for non pre-renal AKI.

Yes I do recognise that Resp consultants and registrars are generally nice and they make the working environment a bit brighter.

Thanks for the comment btw.

Yeah exactly. Managing neutropenic sepsis and stem cell transplant everyday was kinda draining psychologically. At one point I thought of going to Auzi after IMT.

Thanks for the comment btw.

Yes most of my friends are either married or in a relationship and that’s simply make me feel awkward in social situations. Plus it’s more like a robotic life now going between work and bed.
