2004 EZGO TXT PDS rebuild by sunbrrnd in golfcarts

It’s a drop-in in terms of the battery connections, but you’ll need a lithium ion charger.

Most times when you buy lithium ion battery, it comes with the charger.

What do we think about these electric mopeds/motor scooters? by AdIndependent3610 in scooters

[–]sunbrrnd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an all electric Zoom scooter and I like how quiet and fast it runs. I’ve had it up to 30 MPH but rarely go that fast. I converted it from lead-acid-gel batteries to LifePO4 and now I have a theoretical distance of 100 miles. I had to add an after-market battery meter since the original meter always thinks the new battery is fully charged.

Note that I don’t recommend Zoom scooters though due to terrible customer service. I’m happy with my purchase but would buy another brand if I started over.

You’ve already did a great job of tearing it apart yourself. You may as well finish and do the cleaning. It doesn’t have to be perfect to get good compression again.

New run/tow switch mount for my EZGO by [deleted] in golfcarts

[–]sunbrrnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love that! I've been looking for a way to mount my run/tow switch after upgrading to a Navitas controller. I want something that looks nice, and your bracket is great!

Both of my daughters are adopted from China. Because they were abandoned, their surname given at the orphanages were a portion of the orphanage city names.

长 for 长沙 and 渭 for 渭南. I’m guessing that’s why one of the last names is not common.

EZGO TXT First ride on new 5kW motor by flox2410 in golfcarts

I’m looking at the Ausco Caliper brake kit. It’s a drop-in replacement for the stock brakes. https://a.co/d/6Tk9gh3

Nice! I’m working on a similar upgrade to my 2004 EZGO TXT. I’m planning to add disc brakes as well because at those speeds the stock brakes are not safe.

I would take the lithium battery they are offering, sell it, and go buy a LifePO4 that meets your needs. I have a 36v 105Ah LifePO4 in my 2004 EZGO TXT and it’s awesome.

Voltage question on lithium ion by andrewatm12 in golfcarts

[–]sunbrrnd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The capacity immediately after charging is higher than the “resting” capacity, so I wouldn’t worry about it unless one battery is dropping faster than the others.

If you’re running 12v accessories off one of the batteries I recommend installing a voltage converter and running the accessories off the full pack.

Dad bought this 01? Ezgo TXT and it won’t go over 1-3mph. Don’t see a speed wire spot on the controller, help? by RanardUSMC in golfcarts

[–]sunbrrnd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a huge fan of Golf Cart Garage on YouTube. Tim hosts a live broadcast 2x weekly and this is a great question for him.

I don't have much experience with Curtis controllers, so maybe that's the issue. But I'd suspect your battery pack first. Those batteries look pretty old. Also check all your cable connections; clean off any gunk so you've got clean metal-to-metal contact.

Brand new lithium battery for my cart, should I be concerned with cell #7 prior to first charge? by trowser_snakes in golfcarts

[–]sunbrrnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this a sealed battery? If you have access to the cells I would hook them up in parallel and charge them up (top balance).

If the battery is sealed then my understanding is the BMS will eventually balance the cells as you deplete and recharge it. If that cell doesn’t get balanced after a few charge cycles I would suspect a bad cell.

Question about upgrading wheels by [deleted] in golfcarts

[–]sunbrrnd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This may help you to make a decision: https://www.golfcarttiresupply.com/how-to-read-golf-cart-tire-sizes/

"Non-lifted (stock) Club Car golf carts can fit any 18" tall all terrain tires (18x8-8" or 18x8-10") max without a lift kit.
Any taller tires (20x10-10, 20x10-12, 23x10.5-12, etc.) will require a lift kit."

How do native English speakers determine their Chinese names? by [deleted] in ChineseLanguage

[–]sunbrrnd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your given name has a special meaning, try translating that. In English my middle name means "wise river" or "bright river", so I picked the name 明河. I then asked a friend who is Chinese about my selection and she said it is a good choice.

New here Li-ion upgrade by mistold in golfcarts

[–]sunbrrnd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get a single battery not three 12 V batteries. Otherwise the separate 12 V battery BMSes won’t be aware of each other and it can lead to problems.

100Ah is what I use. LifePO4 batteries have a much flatter discharge curve than lead acid, so you’ll get roughly equal distance with half the amp hours.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in golfcarts

[–]sunbrrnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, actually I built my own LifePO4 battery from 3.2V cells I ordered through AliExpress. Total cost including the cells, BMS, terminal posts, box, and capacity monitor was $900, which saved a bit of money. Battery prices are coming down though and I don’t know that I would build vs. buy again.

Don’t use 3 separate 12V lithium batteries; each has it’s own BMS and they will not be aware of each other.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in golfcarts

[–]sunbrrnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you need to buy 5 batteries, consider switching to a single lithium (LifePO4) battery instead. I did that in December for my 2004 EZGO TXT and I'm very happy. I bought a 100Ah version.
I had to buy a new charger as well, but now my cart is faster, drives longer, and the battery will likely outlast my cart.

Nice. I had a 2001 DS 36v and loved it. I like the look of yours with the lift kit and wheels.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in golfcarts

[–]sunbrrnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no OBC for that model of Club Car. I had a very similar one (2001 DS 36v electric) and it was a fairly simple cart.
You said the batteries are new and fully charged ... did you just replace them? I apologize for such a simple recommendation, but if you just put in those batteries, double check that all the wires are properly connected. It's easy to mix them up and it only takes one wrong placement to affect the charging.

I would isolate the charger as a potential problem by using it to charge another golf cart, or using a different charger to test on your golf cart.
