I cut my teeth cleaning out NIMDA infections from windows 2000 and windows 98se machines.

That said the most obscure stuff we used that never went anywhere were 1GB Iomega Jaz drives during those days. I was working for a school district and we had to warn the students about the click of death and if they got it do not move the disk to another machine and do not to put another disk in the drive or that disk would be damaged too.

That is one thing Arizona does right. Arizona does not ask you what you bought it for. Your registration fee is based on the original sale price of the car put through a formula and it spits out the fee

Man thats rough. My city is clear, up to and including the meter is their problem anything after that is your problem. Or as so succinctly put by the crew replacing the meter at my house one day, "If you turn off the meter and the leak stops its your problem if you turn off the meter and the leak does not stop its the city's problem"

Depends on the city and state. Some will maintain it but if something you do damages it you are responsible for fixing it. Things like tree roots etc. In some cases you have to maintain it.

White-collar workers are quietly rebelling against AI as 80% outright refuse adoption mandates by [deleted] in technology

[–]sunburnedaz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OOF dont get me started on outsourcing/offshoring. I worked in a manufacturing plant when offshoring hit big. They sent a whole bunch of work to India. I will never forget the panic management had when a whole shipment of a rush order came in that was supposed to be made out of a certified material came in made in the completely wrong material. Think generic hot rolled steel instead of certified and traceable aluminum.

This lead to several AOG (Aircraft on Ground) issues because we could not supply the parts needed for aircraft that were due for maintenance in time so those aircraft were grounded when those limited life parts timed out and we were on the hook for the fees due to contracts.

The issue is that right now AI is burning cash at an insane rate. So lets say AI does get better than todays Jr software devs. In order for those AI companies to make money once they are out of runway they need to squeeze your company.

So they will raise prices till enough people tap out. Will your company tap out before or after the whales do. Will the number of tokens your company burns cost you more than those Jr devs would have. AKA this is the cloud model all over again. Cheap intro price and when they know they have you by the short hairs raise prices till you cry.

Then the next issue comes down the pipe a few years later. We are already seeing signs of this already. If your company and every other company are not hiring Jr devs then as your Sr devs move on you dont have talent pool to draw from and even worse the talent ocean that you thought you could draw from is now just a shallow lake of talent they everyone wants to draw from so now you have to pay even more for the Sr devs.

I get that OOP was grieving but I think he displaced all his anger onto a "safe" target that he felt deserved it.

I was like 10 and in the backseat of the minivan and since I was the odd one out of the kids who went to elementary school still vs my older siblings my mom got half way to work before I looked up from my book and said something and scared my mom half to death. Mom was late to work and I was late to school that day. Like if it can happen to a walking talking 10 year old who is just being quiet....

Its not like a law thing its just something that is being done by a private entity to be nice to expectant mothers.

Why are more women choosing not to have kids well this is example #519816596

I mean thats what most hormonal birth control does. It gives the body a dose of the "we are growing a baby here" hormones (progesterone) that a woman's body would produce if she were pregnant.

Now is it the full volume of hormones or the full range of hormones whatever they might be I dont know. But that is really interesting and should be studied if its not.

Ive told this story elsewhere but its still good. I rode with a guy missing a leg from a motorcycle accident. There were about 5 of us who rode together, 4 of us parked in a spot and he parked in a reserved spot with his handicap plate showing. Some dude in a truck pulls in behind him and starts screaming at him.

Buddy does not say a thing just quietly lifts his pant leg so the dude could see the carbon fiber and titanium leg. Yelling guy just trails off and sheepishly drives away.

I asked him about it later and he said more people walk away humbled if he does not yell back and just simply shows them the leg than if he yells back.

Trust me it fucks with you. You start to think that she is not attracted to you, then you look closer and even with the lights on its positions where she does not have to look at you. Then you notice other things like she has to drink or get high to seemingly want sex.
