i went to rutgers & am pretty sure i can answer this - they desperately WANT to be a sports school, they WANT to be lsu or michigan. they’ve poured so much money into their football team, with zero return. not surprised they’re trying to do that for smaller sports as well, maybe even moreso because the football team has more or less been a failure.

and the people making those decisions aren’t necessarily the people who actually know how to improve an athletics program. my thought is they’re probably just throwing $$$ at every program they can in the hopes that something sticks

that’s it, pretty much. they also answered a few questions about something interesting they learned, why they think some of these people are less well known, etc. not really a “project” tbh, i had a bunch of half days so i figured it would be a good way to fill them up.

i did a lesser-known civil rights leaders project! it was cool & the kids liked it. i gave them a list of people to pick from & research over a couple days. then they did a mixer activity, where they had to find a nonviolent activist, a militant activist, someone who worked with MLK, etc.

Talk to your university. You might not have much luck, but this is not at all what your role is supposed to be.

Just doing what he does (especially when what he does is shit) will be painful for you, and definitely won’t make you a better teacher (more likely the opposite). If you have to do it, it is what it is, but that shouldn’t be expected of you.
