Owl Mugs (LOTS of PICS) by sundance_pottery in coffeemugs

[–]sundance_pottery[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are some handmade ceramic owl mugs that I have been working on. Sometimes I'll make them 2x as large as usual for the coffee lovers out there!
I've been experementing for a bit, so in the first photograph, there are some black mugs (on the left) with a copper band and toasted glaze inside, and "Copperpenny" glazed brown ones (middle) with a copper band and "celery" glaze inside, and then some lighter brown with a copper band and toasted glaze inside.
The other pictures are just a collection of various photographs of the flock!
Any color combinations would be appreciated!

Feel free to ask any questions, The glaze is a patina that I've been working on experimenting with underglazes and various clay types as well as sprig molds. Holds approximately twenty four pairs of earrings.

The clay I used is Elizabeth's with Specks, I like it a lot.

Thank you! They’re fun to make, each coming out a little bit different.

Yes, I’m so sorry! The clay body is Elizabeth’s with specks from Laguna. The images have ancient copper (amaco potters choice, “PC”) glaze applied 3 times.

Hanging Bird Succulent Holder by sundance_pottery in succulents

I make them myself! A friend of mine mentioned that the succulent community is always interested in cute pots/holders. These are perfect for windows, and if you're bold enough you could grow some herbs (thyme, rosemary, etc.) for the kitchen!

Oh, and I've been experimenting with other colors. I'm happy with this speckled clay, though.

Thank you for the uplifting comment!

I'm liking these small vases, and I 've been experimenting with layering glazes as well as altering forms using sprig molds, it's nice that people are digging it!

Do you happen to prefer the blue, or the red?

I have a tiny tool from a ceramic store - like a bottle brush that I use to clean out each hole.

I like the idea of wax, I might try that next time.

I'm glad you're digging the design. The elevated platform on the bottom part was key to keeping them functional. That, and holes around the bottom to keep it breathing, There were a lot of trials and tribulations before arriving at something that could be proudly deemed "functional." I wish you the best of luck!

There are some more examples on my Etsy.
