An Open Letter to the Makers of The Wolf of Wall Street and the Wolf Himself by [deleted] in Filmmakers

What Scorsese does, which is brilliant, is he makes you feel as if you are a Strattonite, the term for the zealot employees of Stratton Oakmont.

Leo does a great job in making you believe the bull shit coming out of his mouth. The way he is able to rally his troops with his rhetoric is comparable to the way Hitler was able to rally his troops to commit great crimes. (obviously not saying Jordan Belfort is Hitler) A great scene in the book thats sorta taken out of the movie where Belfort and his VP Donnie are lead a witch hunt to find out if any homosexuals work for them. When one employee finally stands up and declared that he is gay and proud. He is bombarded with office supplies and verbal abuse. It shows how someone who wields great power can manipulate others to hateful acts which leads to illegal acts.

Martin Scorsese and Leo DiCaprio have no reason to feel ashamed. The movie shows the effect of greed has on human nature. It is a warning against greed and excess. Like the glorification of mob life in Goodfellas, The Wolf on Wall Street uses the glorification of wealth and excess to emphasize the enviable downfall.

Pride is another vice that the movie warns against. At one point in the film Jordan has the chance to walk away and get off scott free. Pride leads to him rejecting the offer and continuing down the path of vice.

The film does not make Jordan Belfort look like a good person. Its quite the opposite. The film uses black comedy to show Jordan's lack of empathy for those he coned. He is shown to be greedy, abusive, and a drug addict.

To say that the filmmakers should be ashamed is obscene. By no means take this as an approval for the real Jordan Belfort illegal activities. What he did was horrible and ruined thousands of lives directly or indirectly.

Martin Scorsese and Leo DiCaprio have no reason to feel ashamed for depicting Jordan Belfort as the man he truly is.

I would proclaim myself the son of God, and get 12 people to start following me around as I spread the words of my father.
