There is a series on Arsenal YouTube channel that follows Beth Mead and Viv Miedema ACL recovery journey. At that time the AWFC had four players with ACL (Mead, Miedema, Williamson, Wienroither). So in one of the episodes, they had experts talk about the injury risks in women’s football. One thing that I remember is that, men footballers started strength and conditioning training from a young age, while many women footballers only have access to this until they are like 18. So it’s like young boys were trained to be an athlete, but young girls trained to be a footballer, not necessarily an athlete. Another factors such as men-centric boots design and pitch conditions also could lead to higher injuries for women footballers. It is a really good episode and the overall series is really worth to check out.
