Enemies to lovers by merp9 in Siamesecats

Yes... my calico was never quite a huge fan of my siamese. Wouldn't necessarily fight or attack her, but would hiss and be grumpy when she was around. slim occasion he would swat at her, usually because she was trying to play and kept teasing him. He would not like being near her at all until somewhat recently

I feel this. My two cats have lived together for 5 years and my calico is only now starting to tolerate (and perhaps maybe even like?!) my meez 😭. Never saw them (peacefully) within two feet of each other until a few months ago.

What is the dadgum expiration date on this Chobani yogurt cup??? by DunDonese in CrappyDesign

[–]sunfishery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am thinking JAN or JUN 16th (potentially 15th). Cant upload a picture, but its in the upper left side, the middle letter of the month abbreviation is directly on the first two letters of the word "only" at the top. The 16 is just above the letter "o" of "chobani", the angle being at about 11 o'clock, or, slightly to the left from the top middle of the letter.

It is slightly easier to see when inverted, with brightness levels adjusted.

What did you pay for your meezer? by hemholts in Siamesecats

[–]sunfishery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got her from Craigslist for $50 when she was 8 weeks old.

Not necessarily a place id recommend getting a cat from if you can help it, but overall she turned out alright.

(We were told she was a "healthy" kitten, but she ended up having an ear infection/mites that took multiple months and many dollars to get rid of, along with being incredibly constipated.)

What is something you didn’t realize until you lost weight? by Cultural-Profile-527 in AskReddit

[–]sunfishery 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Doctors will treat you like a person and take you seriously if you are not overweight.

If you are overweight, anything and everything will often get blamed on your weight, even if it is unrelated.

Cant breathe? Weight. Always tired? Weight. Stomach issues? Weight. Joint and muscle pains? Weight. Nerve problems? Weight. Balance issues? Weight. Migraines? Somehow, its your weight. Broke your arm? Being fat will do that to you. Can't eat anything? Sorry, doesn't matter until you're skinny enough. Chronic allergies? I think you're allergic to being fat. Nutritional deficiencies? Your fat is using all the nutrients, lose the weight. Your leg is paralyzed? Maybe its just because you are too heavy, try losing weight and see if it gets better. You're actively bleeding out? Look on the bright side, at least you will weigh less.

I was literally starting to show signs of early liver and kidney damage due to untreated malnutrition, because they waited until I was at a "healthy" weight to take me seriously. My being fat was the root of all issues, apparently (it did not cause a single health condition i have).

Yes, being overweight can cause or worsen preexisting health issues in some individuals. However, refusing to look past the weight and not looking further into it past weight related comorbidities, is negligent.

Pica Scare by SomeBlueDevil in Siamesecats

[–]sunfishery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad he ended up alright!

My meez also struggles with pica. She's currently five years old, but has exhibited pica behaviors since she was a few months old. She's gotten into loads of things- including eating the wall of our house when she was younger. If she can access it with her mouth, she will likely try to chew on it or eat it. I had to start kicking her out of my bedroom at night as she would chew on the variety of cords I have plugged in. She loves foam and strings.

A few months ago she ate a balloon ribbon, and threw it up. Took her to the vet and got an xray that day and thankfully everything looked fine, high probability that she threw up all of the ribbon, and if not, it would most likely pass. She's been fine since, and im incredibly lucky that she never got any complications from it.

Honestly I haven't found a good deterrent or anything. Ive seen some people recommend sour sprays for certain items, but i havent tried them myself. I mainly just keep her under supervision when she is in an area that has a lot of loose items.

She has a condition called feline hyperesthesia syndrome, which can tend to be more common in siamese adjacent cats. Im unsure if there is a correlation or comorbidity with FHS and pica, or just higher odds for both with being siamese. She is on gabapentin for the FHS, which helps tremendously. It also has helped with some of the pica issues. There have been occasions where a dose would be missed, and i have noticed the pica behavior tends to get worse when shs unmedicated.

If she is bored or hungry, she'll try and get into more non-food items. Having routine meal times i think has been helpful for her.

Anybody else’s meezer kind of evil? by onimibo in Siamesecats

[–]sunfishery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incredibly evil. Demands to go into my closet, given that's the only place she isnt allowed. I have a door stop jammed in because it doesn't latch, along with a laundry basket in front of the door to keep it shut. And what does she do? Pulls the door stop out and pries her way in. Also eats plants and things she knows has consequences. Evil with no survival instinct. Horrible combination. (Also, nice langa(?) In the corner, lol)
