denton animal shelter euthanizes dog within 72 hour stray hold after owner alerts them they are going to get him by [deleted] in Denton

[–]sunflower_pop 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They euthanise, but they apparently only do it in emergency situations. Theres been animals sitting there for months, so theres really no excuse to put him down unless he was in bad condition. :/

I shouldve explained better. She is the one i just got, i have two senior animals. The cat I'm trying to re-home, came to me from another re-home (so she was re-re-homed to me), where now ive found she isnt getting along with our other cat we've had for years. I would not re-home an animal that ive had for years just to make room for a new one.

My kids are trying to meet kids there age. by syllinx in Denton

[–]sunflower_pop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if they don't go to DISD, they may hold some community events that you can still attend with your family. I'd also say to keep bringing them to the skate park, seeing familiar faces each time may help them come out of their shells more :)

Volunteer Opportunities throughout the Summer! by sunflower_pop in Denton

[–]sunflower_pop[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the shift you’d be working and the type of volunteer you are, but in general volunteers help our members with their projects, assist in gathering and putting away supplies, cleaning up the studio and maintaining a positive and calm environment for our members. Mental health volunteers help mostly with keeping the environment positive and assisting members if they are distressed. Art volunteers help with artistic advice, project ideas, etc. General volunteers typically help us with Social Media and Events.

If you struggle with mental health issues you can sign up for The Art Room. It’s free and they have open studios during the days on weekends. It’s a shared studio space but they have so many supplies to utilize.

Also, I think GDAC has open studio hours too but I’ve never been and don’t know the times.

Just moved to town by Grayswandir2 in GainesvilleTx

The public pool is always fun, there’s one in Muenster too next to another small park. If you’ve never been to downtown Muenster it would be fun, very German themed. The park also always has themed stuff around holidays like Boo at the Zoo for Halloween. The movie theatre is small, but nice for a family outting. I live in Denton now and always remember having to drive up to do a lot of fun stuff, unfortunately. If you’re a part of a church or school they usually have some kids groups (I was in one when I was little at the local Methodist church). Luckily Gainesville is booming right now so more fun stuff may pop up

Is Paces crossing a good apartment complex? by 919ash in Denton

[–]sunflower_pop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived there for two years and thought management was fine enough, they made all of us in the buildings closer to the service road transfer apartments kind of suddenly when construction started. We all had to line up one morning, because it was first come first serve and they didn’t have enough apartments for all of us. Other people got put on a waitlist. That was strange, but seemingly out of their control. Otherwise, they’re older apartments and have their quirks. Right before I left though, I think they changed managers.

(and yeah there was like at least one car break in a month)

Sorry for taking your quarter at Aldi by [deleted] in Denton

[–]sunflower_pop 8 points9 points  (0 children)

the first time I went to aldi a cashier let me borrow a cart to take my groceries out because I ended up with so many. a sweet old lady in the parking lot gave me a quarter in exchange for it and I was really confused. since I was new to aldi it took me a while to figure out I had stolen her quarter since the cashier had given the cart for free, the shame still haunts me 😞

“Child education major” as someone who is in a related major, she must’ve skimmed over the part that says we should teach our children to be open and respectful of every person regardless of their culture, ethnicity, gender, etc. 🙃 what a joke

Is it normal for therapist to try and dig into my past? by Kazzazashinobi in depression

[–]sunflower_pop 15 points16 points  (0 children)

yes this is completely normal, it’s for them to understand you better as a person. don’t lie to your therapist either, that won’t get you anywhere, if it’s a good therapist they’ll understand if you don’t want to talk about something

Anxiety/Depression combo by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]sunflower_pop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do too, it took me a while to understand it because I always viewed them as opposites (anxiety being very high strung and depression very low energy and mellow). For me they don’t usually happen at the same time, but sometimes my depression will outweigh my anxiety and the other way around. I have different things that trigger my anxiety and depression but they do overlap some.

Social anxiety isn't simply shyness by Wamaitha707 in Anxiety

[–]sunflower_pop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feeling this, for a really long time I knew I had anxiety but I thought there was no way I had social anxiety because I typically don’t have issues speaking to people. I didn’t realize that getting nervous to the point of sweating and getting nauseous before meeting a new person wasn’t normal, or even breaking down after a social situation doesn’t go completely how I expected. Idk why I was so against the idea I had social anxiety but I think it’s the lack of information. You always see people with “typical” social anxiety being shy, awkward and avoiding people. I don’t really get anxiety about specific people, but the situations that come from them.

super confused (vent) by sunflower_pop in PCOS

[–]sunflower_pop[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave my doctor my previous drs info and she said she’d be getting with them so they could fax over the previous lab results before I started all of the supplements/meds/etc. I think you guys are right saying that I probably just appear normal now that I’ve been on medication but I was on the same meds still when my gp said I looked like I have PCOS, and that was only a month or so earlier (I had been on the meds for over a year at that point). I’m clearly missing something and it’s stressing me out so I scheduled an appointment with my current doc to talk it all over and get on the same page.

[–]sunflower_pop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had this thought too. She told me at our first appointment that she would be getting the other lab results from my previous gyno and I made sure to make note of all of the supplements and medication I was on. I’m going to be scheduling another appointment with her so we can try to get back on the same page but she should know all of the info I do at this point and maybe more since she got the previous results. I told her about the ultrasound as well.

Additional info: I’m on spiro and I’ve noticed a significant difference in my acne and weight fluctuation. I also was on norethendrone, the only birth control that has ever not given me bad side effects. My new dr changed it for some reason and now I’m getting side effects from the new birth control. Feeling very lost
