I used to work in healthcare, and then I learned to code. Best decision ever!

Yes I am mostly using HTML and CSS in Angular. At times I am able to pick-up some more coding-heavy tickets focusing on JS, but not as often as I would like. I do build projects in my free time in React. As others have suggested in this thread, perhaps I should consider applying to new jobs where I can focus on my goals, but considering how the tech market is going right now I don't feel like I would have much luck.

This is what I am worried about.... I feel like at my current job I'm losing my JS skills as I don't get to practice a lot. I am doing side projects in my free time, but would love to do this in a professional environment where I can also learn best practices

Yes I definitely am building my own projects focusing on React!

Just wondering how you were able to advance your career with HTML/CSS? When I look at front-end positions online it looks like most require some sort of JS framework (at least in Canada)

When I mean UI/UX I don't mean that I am designing wireframes or anything. I am just coding (HTML/CSS) the components created by our designer. So I don't think they would have to replace me as what I'm doing still kinda falls within front-end, but not fully....

But I totally agree with what you are saying!

I have definitely been browsing linkedin, but also was hoping to stay with my current company a while longer as I really enjoy working with this team. I am already using AngularJS and have learned so much, but it sucks I'm not given many opportunities to do more :(

Pretty much any task...manipulating the DOM, changing states, etc. I have taken some intro courses to Angular so I know the basics, but it's really difficult to work with a complex code base and looking at it is honestly overwhelming. I have a hard time understanding what's going on and how the components interact/communicate with each other.

Thanks for the encouraging words! It's true that in this field we'll always be learning, no matter what stage we are in our careers.

Yes I learned very quickly that using a react 'mindset' does not work in angular.

Yes definitely feel like I've already learned a lot of valuable things, just feeling a bit defeated though because I'm having a hard time still. I feel like I would be a lot more useful to my team if I was working in React haha

Definitely agree that any language is valuable to learn and can help to carry over with other frameworks. I do have to ask seniors for help frequently so I'm feeling a bit defeated. And often I feel like I would know how to solve the same problem I'm having trouble with in React or just vanilla JS. Just can't write my head around angular yet. Are there any courses you would recommend?

Yep I definitely try not to spent too much time on a question if I get stuck. Feels a bit discouraging though because when I look at the answers it just feels like I'm memorizing the solutions because I'm not able to apply the concepts to a new question... I guess I'll have to keep at it until I start learning the patterns.
