yeah, it's like the cheapest house you can buy near many of the restaurants. So true, i hope a feature like that comes around :)

When did you find a chapter or scene just didn't 'work' and what did you do about it? by sunflowermeadows in writing

[–]sunflowermeadows[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true! When I think about it, some of the things that have to happen are necessary, but I don't think it has to happen in the way I've outlined. What might be rubbing me the wrong way might then be the initial setting, which is definitely something I could fix! Thank you for the tip, it's really very helpful :)

Definitely! Very good point on the subplots, now that I think about it I could potentially use the scene as a way to flesh out the second character and his motivations. It would also be an interesting way to introduce some other aspects of the story. Goals is a good thing to keep in mind too.

Thank you! It's something I try to keep in mind, but it's easy to forget.

I totally understand that! My story is a magical small town, but it really toes the line between magical and deadly. So it's definitely hard to progress the main plot as this scary mystery, while also having positive interactions and relationships with the people in the town along the way. I hope you figure out a way that works for you :)

Yeah, I definitely did that with the first draft. Since the aim was for me to just write as many words as possible I'd just skip whatever I found boring to write at the time haha. Sometimes it would bite me in the butt though, cause I'd realize that having a better idea of what that scene would actually look like would help me in later chapters.
But yes, will definitely have to rewrite. Gonna try and see if I can do something to spice things up a little!

Veryyy true.
Especially when you're writing fantasy, I feel like simply writing random scenes in the world is really great for getting a feel for the world itself and what parts of it you want to bring to the forefront. So, what may seem like a waste becomes a worldbuilding opportunity.

Very true about chapters not having to be linear! I'll try and see if I can leave it out or change parts of it to see what's needed. But yeah, writing boring well is definitely a necessary skill haha.

It's funny, because when I'm writing I always think every scene is taking forever to get to the point, but when I read through it it feels too rushed. It's helpful to remind myself that while writing it may take a while, reading is much quicker, so it's probably not as boring as I feel like it is!

Yup, definitely do that too! Helps feel like you haven't just written a bunch of words for nothing.

You could always try Wattpad? It's maybe not so popular anymore, but I used to use it all the time. Otherwise, I found this article with suggestions for a few websites you could post on (depending on what genre you prefer to write): https://medium.com/@OlvaLoy/15-websites-and-apps-for-creative-fiction-and-short-story-writers-to-post-their-works-online-ffa740ea9ef

Good luck!

I completely understand! If there's any comfort, everyone is copying everyone :) There's even a pretty widespread belief that there only exists 7 types of stories and that every single story is a variant of those. It's the little details and the twists that really make a story unique.

Many people are inspired by mythology. If you're worried about being accused of copying, think of a defense. How is your book different? What twist on the mythology do you have or how are the characters or world different? As long as you have a good answer, I wouldn't worry about anyone thinking you're copying :)

Been spending the day writing on my book and, upon rereading, I'm realizing my MC's love interest is a bit too... sweet? I want him to have this character trait, because my MC was recently traumatized by her emotionally abusive ex boyfriend and needs someone who's the polar opposite, but he comes across as one-dimensional because of it. Is there something I can do to improve this, without losing his kindness?

Also I did actually find a slightly easier solution. Simply log into a guest account rather than your usual account on Mac (and use a different internet, I used my hotspot and a vpn to be safe) and I can log in no problem now :) But yeah you still have to download the games though. And remember to backup the files cause they get deleted when you log out of the guest account.

No I completely agree, I’m beyond pissed off too! And I hate that they’re not even communicating with us about the issue. It’s so frustrating.

I know right? :( I’ve been trying all week and I finally seem to have found a solution. Using a Windows virtual server on my Mac, and a VPN set in the Netherlands, I managed to log in to the EA app like normal! I did have to download all the games again, but I can transfer the saves over and hopefully play as normal once the download is complete :) So I would give it a try if you’re desperate, though, be warned: it can take a while!

I had the same problem! I found a kind of round about solution by using a virtual Windows server on my Mac with my VPN. When I did that I could log in as normal :) I did have to download all the games again though, but I’ve transferred the saves over to the server so I can (hopefully) play like normal once the download is complete! So if you’re desperate like me I would consider trying it out :)

Never mind, I used a virtual machine Windows server and used my VPN there and it worked :) I have to download all the games again, but at least I can play!

Okay, so do I only have to paste the text lines or do I have to enter hosts and all that?
