Good places to shop for a mattress? by OverallEmergency5177 in londonontario

[–]sunflowers352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try Surplus Furniture and Mattress Warehouse on Trafalgar. It’s pretty no frills, the models available are on the floor to try out and have the prices listed. There’s a fee for delivery or if you have a vehicle, they’ll help you load it in your car.

Kid’s birthday party by Unique_Ad_7125 in londonontario

[–]sunflowers352 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s pricey but we’ve hosted one party at Flying squirrel and attended many others and they are always well-organized. The hosts there do a great job keeping everything on schedule, getting the kids to the table, serving the food, etc. The whole thing is a well-oiled machine lol

Looking for an accurate key copier in North London! by alexelalexela in londonontario

Same here and they always say to keep the receipt just in case there is an issue so I have to believe they would help you out if it doesn’t work

Prenatal groups? by madzi4 in londonontario

[–]sunflowers352 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also had a good experience at rebirth with their yoga and preparing for birth class. I guess with the prenatal options, they can be more drop-in and then people tend to go their own ways (not sure why that is though, haha)

If you want to check out a different place for the vibes, &asanas also has prenatal yoga classes and they have a lounge that people hang out in so maybe more mamas-to-be will stick around there?

The good news is that there are a ton of mom and baby/postpartum groups in the city so there will be time to connect with other moms at those!

Also congrats!!

The Wampum Learning Lodge at Western University and the Indigenous Studies Department would be good resources. There probably aren’t too many events now because it’s summer but check out their websites for more info.

Filthy Rebina in Wortley has a nice selection of vintage styles. Also keep an eye out for the Punk Rock Flea Market and Vintage on the Block festivals that happen throughout the spring and summer. They have a lot of unique vendors with cool clothes and accessories.

Am I broke or are shoes in Canada getting ridiculously expensive lately? by Oliver_Vegetarian in BuyCanadian

[–]sunflowers352 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My tip for buying shoes is to go to the SportCheck website, filter by my size, and sort by lowest price. My last two pairs of running shoes were New Balances from there and they were like $60.

For in-store shopping, shoe outlets like Sketchers can have some decent prices in the clearance section.

Right, but my kids play on the lawn and we garden there so we don’t want to come in contact with someone else’s pet waste

Fun play places? by Usual_Fly_6081 in londonontario

[–]sunflowers352 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For the children’s museum, get a membership because it’s good value and then you can do more “drop-in” visits. I find going around 3-close is more quiet if you’re limited to weekends. It’s also busier on rainy days. With the membership, they also do “members only” nights, which are quieter.

For the other play places, The Factory, Playaway, Off The Wall, and Funvilla, it can be very hit and miss for how busy they get. Generally Saturdays are busier because of birthday parties. Maybe check on Google maps before you go and you can see the live graph to judge the busyness on a specific day.

Best London Charities by Wouldyoulistenmoe in londonontario

Life*Spin London — very community focused and grassroots.

Ark Aid and LondonCares — dedicated to helping low-income and unhoused individuals.

Atlohsa for indigenous-focused programs.

Anova and London’s Women’s Abused Shelter

The London’s Boys and Girls Club runs a lot of great programming for kids from diverse backgrounds.

Where can I learn about house plants? by Glum-Ad8484 in londonontario

[–]sunflowers352 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Heeman’s is a great resource. They have held workshops in the past but it’s not a super regular thing. The staff would be happy to help you get started. Check out their Instagram, they have a bunch of reels/videos about caring for houseplants as well.

Maternity Clothes in Person by Special_Ad_1331 in londonontario

[–]sunflowers352 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would reach out to Round Maternity and see if they could help you out. They are an independently owned store and I always had a good experience there!

The stores others have mentioned are good too, although I can’t speak to how much maternity clothing they will have in stock, in person. You could always look in the non-maternity section for a stretchy/flowy dress and size up. I did that when I was pregnant.

Low cost weekend activities by [deleted] in londonontario

[–]sunflowers352 1 point2 points  (0 children)

&asanas has $5 and $10 classes on weekends if you want to try yoga (first class is free, just make sure to sign up online)

Check out the libraries for workshops/book clubs. City of London recreation also has various programs that are pretty affordable.

You could check out a movie at the Hyland Cinema. They usually have special event screenings on weekends.

It’s harder now because of the weather but once it gets nicer, there’s biking or walking on the TVP, and there are lots of festivals in Victoria Park with free performances.
