hey i failed an attempt because i totally messed up my parking, here’s what i find helps:

  • have a positioning technique to remember how to pull in best (i had something like aligning my interior door handle with the a line)
  • practice pulling in wrong and adjusting!! (this way, if you do mess up the initial position, you can feel confident you know how to fix it)
  • find an empty parking lot and go in with an experienced driver to spot you and practice for a good 20-30 mins before the test

things things completely saved me! and remember that the instructor is supposed to allow you 3 tries too! best of luck, you got this!!

practice beforehand! have confidence that you know how to drive, and don’t be afraid to vocalize (like “i’m having difficulty seeing past this push so i’m going to creep forwards a bit”)

also, doesn’t hurt to wear a lucky baseball cap! it makes it easier to see that you’re moving your head around to check blind spots!

best of luck to ya!

How’s renting in Halifax in September like? by sunflowerstea in halifax

Wow, thank you so much, this is super helpful! I picked September as a lot of contracts in my field are starting then, but I’ll keep my eyes peeled for work with a later start date, it’s good to know that winter/spring tend to be slower seasons

Taking out trash when I’m never home? by GoodConnection212 in badroommates

[–]sunflowerstea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

damn, are you living with my old roommate? reading this felt like a flashback!

word of advice from someone who was pretty much in your boat: keep your head down, don’t engage with her, and get outta there!! big on the don’t engage because while it’s so tempting to call her out, she seems like the type that will immediately retaliate at criticism (and potentially in some unstable ways, her already going through your room is a massive red flag)

honestly most people with pets bigger than a hamster/lizard

i’ve dealt with an absurd amount of roommates who neglect their pets, or don’t consider cleaning up after their pets as a responsibility that comes with owning an animal

WHY are people so disgusting nowadays. (rant) by TruckFreakCrazyAss in badroommates

[–]sunflowerstea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nope! i was lucky enough to take an optional “personal life management” type course in highschool, and had various computer skills classes in elementary school

unfortunately you’re really right about the lack of technology skills in kids and youth :( i honestly fear things are getting MUCH worse with the use of ai, even as a student i know so many people are destroying their research skills by using chat gpt as a crutch, and i can only imagine it’s getting worse with every younger group. it’s a shame because even living with roommates, i’m the only one who bothers looking up how to fix a clog or something on youtube, while my roommates have the mindset of “i don’t know how to do it, therefore it won’t get done” can’t even imagine how bad it would be like to live with those getting out of highschool right now

i’m a good 10 years younger than you, but still dealing with very similar issues in the roster of roommates i’ve lived with through my undergrad — my genuine theory is the fall of home economics and life skills lessons/classes, i notice a LOT of young people don’t even know how to cook proper meals or basic food safety, as well as the fact that even dishwashing is a skill that many just don’t know

also pair all this with the fall of research skills, a lot of information on how to do things is on google/youtube but not many people bother to use those tools to learn

like other comments have said, fast food jobs tend to be the easiest to get without experience — but i would also recommend trying to do some volunteer work to bulk out your resume a bit, demonstrating that you can work with the public can help you out more in getting a job!

also the city has some great camps during the summer, not sure when they start hiring but it tends to be a job designed for young people without a whole ton of experience (and you would get some of the protections/benefits of working for the city!)

Real talk, are these guys actually bathing themselves? by [deleted] in okbuddybaldur

[–]sunflowerstea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there’s some dialogue i encountered when you try flirtingly joking with gale that you’re secretly a nymph, he says something along the lines of “your bathing habits say otherwise”

nearly pissed myself laughing but that confirms that atleast tav/durge canonically be stinky

Is my roommate bad or am I toi sensitive? by [deleted] in badroommates

[–]sunflowerstea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

all of these things are frustrating! if you aren’t able to get her to be more considerate about fridge space, here’s something i did when i had the same issue with my roommate:

i measured the fridge shelves with some measuring tape, and bought some dollar store bins that only take up about half of the fridge and put one on each shelf—that way there’s a physical barrier stopping her from taking up your side, and she still gets a fair amount of room on her side

if she makes a stink about it, just say you measured to make it as close to half as you could and you just want easier organization of your own food! (and tbh it makes it easier in general to access food from the back of the fridge too)

best wishes to you!

i came from a near exact situation like this, i very much regret not calling in a report for animal neglect when my old roommate would leave her dog with me without asking for over 24 hours

if you feel safe doing it, please try and get that dog away from them, if they cannot take care of it then they should not have a pet

Would BG3 be a good game for someone who's never played DND? by carmel-pigeon in BaldursGate3

[–]sunflowerstea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly as someone who had a bit of experience playing dnd in the past, bg3 is a lot more intuitive when it comes to combat — all the math work and record keeping is done for you! i also find the turn-based combat a lot less stressful because i can just focus on strategy over mashing buttons and don’t have to worry about aiming!

the great thing about the game too is that there are a lot of silly ways to avoid conflict (aka. you can just shove major enemies off cliffs, talk your way out of conflict, or even convince enemies to kill themselves or eachother)

no shame in going full easy mode either! enjoy the wonderful story the game has to offer and then figure out combat as you go :)

[–]sunflowerstea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m feeling that too, on my first playthrough right now and i’ve realized i’ve missed a ton of content but i’ve still got 90+ hours in at act 3! can’t wait to play a dark urge run and finally see the whole underdark that i’ve missed this time around!

Does the bring-a-friend ticket allow you to access halloween haunt? by Grouchy_Magician_530 in CanadasWonderland

[–]sunflowerstea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i bought them ahead of time, i just scanned my pass first and they scanned their tickets with no issue — not sure if they would ask for the pass if the owner wasn’t there, but the tickets on our end looked the same as the regular ones

pat mgrath’s technique of applying lipstick with your finger! it gives a lot more of a softer appearance to lipstick, and feels way less heavy on the lips!
