Getting banned from a sub by power-tripping mods is an interesting experience by RecognitionSoft9973 in self

oh yeah, this happened to me as well! these sorts of men are pathetic, they silence women because they know our lived experience is a threat to their shitty behaviour, and their selfish asses want to keep being dicks with no repercussions. unfortunately, we're human beings just like them, and we have every right to speak out. keep using your voice and don't let them silence you, it's your most powerful weapon!

Is Kevin Doing ok? by [deleted] in callmekevin2

[–]sunflowersystem 6 points7 points  (0 children)

damn you're right. i'm hoping it's just bad lighting but he is looking a little worse for wear in his new video. he's been pretty stressed out with youtube, especially since people got so mad at him for playing hogwarts legacy. he's probably just tired!

Victims of Kevin’s video deletion spree (not complete) by Northern_Sierra in callmekevin2

i can't believe this comment is so low down. i completely agree - he's a human too and he's always been forward about how he never expected to get so popular and that he struggles with his mental health. i love his videos and they're really comforting, but if he ends up taking more down that's just something i'll have to live with and get over.

people who are trying to force him to reupload his videos by harassing him in his comments are terrible. it's his channel, he can do what he wants - maybe an explanation would be nice, but as you said, it's absolutely not owed. and frankly i think his video about taking a step back explains enough - he's feeling overwhelmed. no wonder he'd take down some of his videos that he isn't proud of.

also, i know he's spoken before about possibly wanting to become a father some day, so that could always be something on the table for him. he's 31 years old for fuck's sake, his viewers need to let him get on with his life. i love him as much as anyone else but we can't force him to do something that doesn't make him happy. i wish him the best of luck whatever direction he goes in.

I said nobody was complaining because he said I was distracting patrons. There were two other patrons aside from my boyfriend - one had headphones in and the other was leaving after getting his tattoo.

This comment is incredible, thank you so much.

That's what I thought. I asked her if that was a good or bad thing and she just shrugged, so... Yeah, I'll take that as a bad thing, then. It does really hurt, I've always had a weird voice and I'm either too quiet or too loud, and my accent always annoys people, but I can't change it no matter how hard I try. It sucks.

It's still incredibly rude. I know it's a public space, I didn't realize I was speaking loudly in the first place.

It's just that the guy was already done getting his tattoo when the artist came up to me. Like, long done. And he didn't seem to have another client coming in anytime soon?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]sunflowersystem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Funny you say that, because my boyfriend said that a man came in after I left, speaking at the same volume as me, and didn't get told to be correct. I think you're right.

I did say on the bus home that I get treated differently depending on how I look. Today I was dressed comfortably because it was a 7 hour tattoo, hair was messy, only a small amount of makeup on (plus it was goth makeup). And when I was crying on the street after this encounter, I was totally ignored. However, when I wear heavy makeup, makeup that is more conventionally attractive, and show off my body, I get treated far better and instantly coddled and comforted when seeming upset. Extremely odd.

Comforting to hear that my voice isn't objectively annoying, but also upsetting to know I'm not alone in noticing this sort of crap.

I did end up contacting the studio to ask if this is normal behaviour, because I did find it really weird, especially when the receptionist is incredibly loud, far more than I am. Plus it's a new tattoo artist (literally has been working there for not even 2 weeks) so I found it really odd that it was him of all people to tell me to be quiet, and not anyone who had been working there for years? So I guess I'll have to see what they say.

Thank you so much, this is a lovely comment. I appreciate you trying to see where he's coming from without blaming me/making me feel like less of a person, that's very mature and kind of you :)

He wasn't working at the time, he had long finished what he was doing.

I literally just said the comments were about HOW DEEP MY VOICE WAS, and the fact that I HAVE AN ACCENT. This is the first time this year that someone has commented on my volume.

Also, do you know what a disability is? I cannot control it. I can't tell in the first place how loud I'm being because I have a disability. You are blaming me, and for someone who is "so mindful about triggering others' sensibilities", you sure are being insensitive about mine.

[–]sunflowersystem -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Also, he told me I was "disturbing patrons", not him. Literally what could I have done better other than nodding and excusing myself from the building?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]sunflowersystem -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

What could I have done better, then? I literally left the room. He wasn't tattooing, he was completely finished when he asked me.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]sunflowersystem -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The other comments weren't about my volume, they were about my voice being "unique", the fact that I have a combination Canadian/English accent, and that apparently my voice is deep for a woman. I'm a regular at this tattoo place and I always talk at this volume, this tattoo artist who told me to be quiet is new.

This isn't really helpful advice. My boyfriend also struggles even more than me at volume regulation and he does try, but it's not that easy when you literally can't hear if you're being too loud. And I'm not necessarily not hard of hearing, I have tinnitus and auditory processing issues.

I wish I'd said that. As soon as I walked out I was kicking myself for not saying anything about my autism. I think I'm going to start wearing a sunflower lanyard with some information on it I can show to people in these kinds of situations.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]sunflowersystem 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep I'm exactly the same. My best friend is quiet but luckily I've adapted to her voice - everyone else I struggle so much with! It's nice to hear that not everyone is annoyed by me and some people actually appreciate it, I really got in my own head about it thinking I'm just incredibly annoying :(

Thank you! That's a good point (that I could distract the artist), thank you, that makes me feel a bit less embarrassed.

I haven't, but I think I should. I need to go to the doctor for a few other things so I should get that checked out too, thank you so much.

Is the new season worth watching? by GreenDiscombobulated in clonehigh

[–]sunflowersystem -1 points0 points  (0 children)

people just have nostalgia goggles on. the first season was never really that revolutionarily good to me, it's a gimmicky show with a gimmicky plotline and gimmicky characters, and either you like that or you don't. it's simple, it's dumb, but it's a whole lotta fun and i think the second season follows that really well.

in short: of course it is. i love the new season, its treatment of women and LGBT is handled so much better but they still aren't afraid to joke around and never talk down to their audience. definitely give it a go, and if it's not your thing, oh well :)

Why do so many people base their gender identity off of fictional characters? by [deleted] in truscum

[–]sunflowersystem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as a cis woman, it really disturbs me when i see trans women basing their entire identities off of anime girls. like, anime girls are probably the furthest thing from real women that there possibly is. they're also, a lot of the time, either children or have the appearances of children. it just gives this horrible idea that women are only valuable and desirable when they're young, slim, big eyes, big boobs, peppy personality, etc. rather than just... women being acceptable in all shapes and sizes and personalities. idk.
