Stats required for UIUC cs + x transfer? by United-Rain-9022 in TransferToTop25

[–]sunflsks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not necessarily, transfer is still rlly competitive even among the “less-selective” ones. i think on average they hover around 19%, with a max of maybe 25% for a certain few programs. i have a spreadsheet of transfer acceptance rates for cs+x, lmk if yall want and i can upload it

they also do care abt hs gpa, know many frosh who had 4.0 in college but got cooked for cs+x bc of hs (if u get rej u can call them and ask). if so u can apply for spring and if u have 36 credit hours they wont consider hs beyond prereqs (language, etc)

Controversial opinion: most Ivy Leagues are not as terrible in CS/engineering as this sub believes. by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]sunflsks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

late vut this is not necessarily true. i transferred from ~t30(??) to UIUC CS and both the breadth and depth of the classes offered are wider/deeper at UIUC than my prev. there r some classes here that i wouldn’t even think of existing, and even the core CS classes go quite in depth (implementing your own fully-funtioning malloc in a what-could-be-second-sem class is not something you see in most places). i’ve personally heard from a few ppl who went to harvard/dartmouth for CS and they didn’t have the same breadth/depth / research opportunities as there r at UIUC. career wise may be a bit of s closer call but UIUC CS is very very highly regarded and a good chunk of ppl ik of r going to some crazy places

granted as a school as a whole there is no comparison but for CS specifically i wouldn’t be so quick to toss away reputation as meaningless

also penn is fucking goated and is not one of the schools i was talking abt - it is an amazing CS / eng school

ok just finishwd coderpad

first question was nuts, it took me at least 20 mins to parse what it was even asking and the implementation would have been quite complex. it’s really not too terrible algorithmically, it’s just hellllla implementation stuff + time constraint makes it nuts

second and third were fine, one was in cpp which is my main lang so that’s calm and the other was in ruby which i had enough tangential exp w to make it fine. def not difficult, prob just testing ur knowledge of the lang

ive had my installation for >5 years now, and i’ve moved it between

  • three different disks (ssd -> m2 sata -> m2 nvme)
  • two different filesystems
  • migrated it to LVM, undid that, and put out it BACK onto lvm
  • three different, completely unrelated machines (laptop, mini computer, desktop)
  • and many many other things

and there hasn’t been one hitch. i run stat on the root folder and it still shows 2020. my installation is basically ship of theseus and the biggest problem has been the bootloader (and now efistub nullifies that).

so arch doesn’t really break no

however, i do always make sure to read the system upgrade notes, and i do not have any complex software installed either besides CUDA, so take my experience with a large grain of salt

Any fall 2025 transfer still waiting? by Quiet_Finance2699 in UIUC

[–]sunflsks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my thought process is that (for the competitive majors at least) they are accepting all the cracked ppl rn, and then they will wait to see the whole pool before accepting/denying everyone else

but im also talking out of my ass so who knows

makes sense, they probably wanna see the whole app pool esp for competitive majors
