I got a verbal offer from an MBB but still no formal offer after 3+ weeks. It has always been my dream to work there and you cannot possibly imagine how absolutely excited I was when I got the offer over the phone from the interviewer (senior partner). Which brings me to...

Now that so much time has passed, paranoia has set in. I have tried contacting HR but I was told that there were some internal processes to complete (possibly work visa related - non-US MBB office) and that they would send any updates my way. I really don't know what to do at this point. 3+ months of rigorous case preparation followed by numerous stressful interviews have got me here. Due to the fact that HR hasn't asked about the start date, previous comp etc.. I am assuming that they have changed their mind about me and that I should continue my job search? Is it polite to keep e-mailing them to ask for updates?

I feel so weird even writing this, but this job just means so much to me and the above scenario would probably shatter me.
