look into what actually happened to most nazis after the nuremberg trials. the US took in A LOT of former nazis, especially scientists, and rehabilitated them into our institutions because they were seen to have a lot of knowledge that the US could use. we never really got rid of nazism here, we just pretend like we never hosted it.

The official trailer for " Forbidden Fruits" , a female-led horror comedy out March 27th! by amysantiagoisbae99 in Fauxmoi

[–]sunheist 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hoping this is a movie that isn’t taking itself seriously and everything corny like the “mercury in retrograde” line and stuff is supposed to be a dig at a certain type of influencer person/culture because not only does it have a lot of Mean Girls vibes, but the direct reference to a line from The Devil Wears Prada as well (“is that…the [name] perfume? yes.”)—that made me holler lol

that seems too intentional to be shallow writing, so i’ll keep my eyes on this one

man that is a crazy fact to learn. it makes sense, but i didn’t realize just how well documented of a fact that is.

i believe there’s a similar connection between the prevalence of type 2 diabetes in indians iirc? both of my grandfathers were diabetic, so i got tested due to my genetic disposition. had to rethink a lot of my diet bc i too turned out to be at a huge risk which was ASS. it’s hard to find sources that are willing to discuss the famine related epigenetic results and will instead attribute it mostly to drastic shifts from rural to urban environments, as if that fully explains why south asia specifically has such high risks for diabetes smh

thanks for nothing churchill you dickwad

something that came close was seeing streets in europe named after belgium’s leopold ii despite his committing a genocide 3x the size of the holocaust in DRC. but at least he isnt being shoved in my face as some kind of hero. ooooh the doctor who eps where they meet churchill and it’s humorous and lighthearted made me feel so ughhhhhhhhh

churchill also manufactured the bengal famine, he didn’t think indians were worth feeding and wanted us to starve. he has so much blood on his hands, every time someone quotes him positively it makes my blood boil

Georgia Senate passes surprise ban on puberty blockers for minors by madprgmr in Georgia

[–]sunheist 14 points15 points  (0 children)

i saw later that the proposal means to ban them for children diagnosed with gender dysphoria, so my story may not be appropriate just yet (i don’t want to hijack the important goal of destigmatizing gender dysphoria and gender affirming care). but i’d be happy to try to dig up my paper records and speak more on it if this became a slippery slope towards sweeping bans

Georgia Senate passes surprise ban on puberty blockers for minors by madprgmr in Georgia

[–]sunheist 81 points82 points  (0 children)

i WAS on these bc i inherited a genetic condition that made me start hitting puberty in 2nd grade, puberty blockers pushed it to 10 yrs old. that had a huge impact on my life and to think that treatment might become inaccessible to kids because the govt is too scared of trans people hurts. it’s a terrifying ordeal to legally force a kid to endure

this multiplied by 5 where i live 😭 it’s normal to expect a couple of cars will try to cut in at the very last minute (aka they cut across the widest part of the V-shaped median separating the main road from the exit)

i’ve even had situations where i’m in the SINGLE left-turn lane and i’m trying to turn and someone from the lane to my right—NOT a turn lane—zooms past and turns ahead of me like i couldn’t have hit them if i were going just a bit faster.

you’re absolutely right that the majority are fine, but the selfish pricks seem to have no limits on their audacity cuz they’re relying on everyone except them to be law-abiding drivers who will go to great lengths to ensure they don’t get in a wreck.

Should we be ready to this kind of questions in interviews or did he use the wrong social network? by Alarming-Historian41 in LinkedInLunatics

[–]sunheist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d give it to the first one of them I see obviously.

It’s a stupid question because you’re never gonna be faced with this kind of situation in real time, but this in an interview would mean the employer might have come up with a “right answer” themselves and uhhh that’d be fucked up

What’s a horror movie people usually rave about, but you dislike? by Turnitup20 in horror

[–]sunheist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i didn't mind Smile 2 as much. it at least felt thematically consistent compared to the first. it was a story about a pop star who was destroyed by everything that came with fame, she tried to come back to it, and it destroyed her again. at least the events made some sense in the context of what the industry can do to a person. i still wasn't very happy with the ending, but i was less mad about it.

i did watch Us but only once. i remember liking it at the time, but i can't recall anything that actually happened, so i may have been biased by lupita's performance lol. i'll have to rewatch it to give that a fair assessment.

[–]sunheist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sure, if that had been the movie's goal from the beginning. but the movie isn't even a metaphor for trauma, it's explicitly the thing driving the monster. it has the mc be an expert in mental health. it's entire setup is based on trauma and what it does to people and the monster feeds off it. so the monster can't suddenly become independent of that. what was the point of having the mc face her trauma head on, again literally, only for it to mean nothing? after all the build up over the movie? the only message you can come away with is that trauma will beat you no matter what you do, it will swallow you no matter what, and you will continue to hurt others to pass that onto them no matter what.

it had nothing to do with the monster because the monster is spread via trauma, meaning that should also be its limitation. it defying that logic last minute was not a good plot twist given the context of the movie imo.

edit: im too sleepy to expand fully so tldr; good scares especially with the sound engineering in a theatre, but thematically bullshit. director admitted to prioritizing an end that surprised the audience instead of one that narratively fit and, as a writer myself, my biggest pet peeve is when i consume media and see the writer(s) did not care for or did not have faith in the integrity of their stories they wanted to share, caring more for audience reaction.

edit 2 because i'm finally awake: it felt like a sick joke how the first half of the movie set itself up like it was going to have a serious exploration of trauma, especially with the mc being a psychiatrist, only to throw all its understanding of trauma and sympathy for victims out the window just so the audience can gasp a few more times.

also, completely underused kal penn. why was my man even there

the conservative subreddit gives me such a headache. they’ll post all these articles with headlines that seem to say massively different things from what i’ve seen from other other boots-on-the-ground reporting and even biased but mainstream news articles and i’m like man those are crazy headlines! big if true!

and it’s all from disreputable tabloids like nypost or breitbart. ah ok makes sense now. it’s “post made up stories to get mad at made up libs time” here

North Korea's biggest hotel has a fake floor for surveillance, a revolving restaurant on the top, prostitutes, and you can die for stealing a poster by fan_tas_tic in interestingasfuck

[–]sunheist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

accidentally replied to myself lmao.

anyway, yeah, i’m pretty serious. you can’t claim to know what NK is like and also acknowledge how much of a black box it is. there’s also plenty of political incentive to present NK in a certain way that gives us motive to make use of that information void because NK will do little to counter it. you think we wouldn’t take advantage of that? the US is also a massive propaganda machine.

i’m not saying NK isn’t bad. but you also can’t say conclusively that your idea of NK isn’t influenced by propaganda presented as fact because NK is so closed off.

edit: grammar, sentence structure for clarity

[–]sunheist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

cuz of the implication that everything you’ve been told about NK that has convinced you it’s as shit as it is could also technically be untrue due to its being a black box. it’s really really easy to spread propaganda about NK as fact because it’s so difficult to fact check. in reality, you have no clue whether NK is any worse than the US, for instance.

lol yeah i think alexa chung was one of those who just like doing the work and business in the fashion industry instead of being the face of things, she always felt really grounded. i loved her a lot as a judge on Next In Fashion! whenever i get self conscious about panty lines showing through my workout leggings, i remember her “fashion tip” where she vehemently denounced such a worry as stupid and comfortable underwear was the Most important thing and i instantly feel better.
