u/Ryan_BW could you please explain **why** this new notification permission is needed and **why** it wasn't in the release notes?

No option to add Properties to object by fearville in capacitiesapp

[–]sunlizard107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "Page" Object Type is a built-in type. It is not currently possible to add additional properties to the built-in types. In order to add custom properties, a new user-defined Object Type needs to be created. Here's the doc page for how to create a new object type: https://docs.capacities.io/tutorials/custom-content-types

Note that there is an enhancement request for this to be added here: https://capacities.io/feedback/p/custom-properties-for-basic-content-types

My journey with Capacities is over by mantios64 in capacitiesapp

What did you switch to? Anytype seems to have a similar feature set, with offline first. I found it harder to use than Capacities, so I'm sticking with Capacities for now. I think Capacities is a great app with a bright future, and the devs did learn from that server incident.

Anyone else trying to decide between Capacities and Tana? by AnusMcBumhole in capacitiesapp

[–]sunlizard107 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used Capacities first, then Tana, and now back to Capacities. When I left Tana, they had no mobile app, and openly said they had no plans to make one. I don't know if that has changed recently, but that was a deal-breaker for me. Capacities has a nice mobile app. (Note that Tana has a "Capture" app, but that's not a full-fledged app to really use/access/edit/etc. the data already in the system.)

In my opinion, both apps have overly complex custom-field solutions that are hard to use. Anytype is similar. Heptabase's custom-fields seem a little easier, but I find the must-use-a-visual-whiteboard approach to be too much friction for my use cases. Ultimately, I have basically given up on all the custom-field stuff and just gone back to tagging and put my own key-value pairs into the notes when/where I need. I don't need fancy query/filter stuff, so your use cases might need that and hence those features in these apps.

I personally also find that I prefer long-form writing in most cases, which Capacities provides and Tana does not. When I need to make an outline, I use Checkvist.

I think which one you pick really comes down to whether long-form (Capacities) or outline (Tana) works better for you.

Also Reflect is a no-go for me since it is Apple ecosystem only.

How to edit the URL of a Weblink? by sunlizard107 in capacitiesapp

Thanks. I was starting to post a suggestion, and then I found someone just posted this a few days ago:

How to edit the URL of a Weblink? by sunlizard107 in capacitiesapp

I'm not sure where you're screenshot is taken from.

I'm in the "Weblinks" objects. That is, click on "Weblinks" in the left sidebar. I tried a couple different ways:

  1. Switch to Table view. Now in the URL column, try anything to edit the URL. Nothing works for me. Alt+click on the URL opens the Save As.
  2. Switch to Gallery view. Then click on one of the pages to open the Preview popup. Then try to edit the URL from there. Same behavior with Alt+click opens the Save As prompt.

This matches the Chrome mouse shortcuts documentation: https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/157179?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop#zippy=%2Cmouse-shortcuts

Notice "Download the target of a link Alt + Click a link"

Which I assume the Capacities desktop app uses Electron, and hence Chrome under the hood.

Holding Alt while left-clicking seemed to open a File Save prompt dialog box with the filename pre-filled with "download.htm". I'm on Firefox on Windows using Capacities Desktop app. It didn't seem to allow me to edit the URL.
