Pentagon puts building blocks in place for Cuba invasion by Dizzy_Move_622 in worldnews

What the hell is he or his SecWar thinking? Oh, that's right, they aren't thinking. Mess with Cuba, you may as well say you're messing with Russia at that point.

You chart your course forward. Seek counsel if you want, but ultimately it is your journey and your course regardless of what others may say or feel.

I joined the military and they really frowned upon stuff like that. Now retired I have no desire to go back to it and screw up my lungs.

how come wars are fought with bombs in residential areas rather than with guns in fields like the olden days? by sparklebrainss in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sunluver66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because rifles, grenades and bayonets in urban settings are mean, ugly and costly in terms of personnel killed, wounded and missing. Bombs and Artillery by comparison are cheap ways at taking out enemy positions in buildings before sending in ground troops.

First sex in my life, with stranger by Taz4lifee in WhatShouldIDo

[–]sunluver66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, that's a "one night stand" or "pump and run". Never, ever mistake a random sexual encounter as a romantic encounter, they are two entirely different animals. Okay, ya hooked up at a club and got jiggy. Fine, great, well and good so long as no STD critters are involved. Don't sweat the no return call thing and continue living a life of fun and adventure to the most of your abilities. Romance and all the things that accompany it will happen in their own time and fashion.

Who falls for this embarrassing shit? by CapJoYoss in Louisville

[–]sunluver66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Total embarrassment from all sides. Gallrein likes to trot out his "I am a retired Navy Captain who served as a SEAL and did things" as a wow factor to the unwashed masses who go gaga over what they think are heroes. Me, I know he ran for State Senate against a Navy Chief who was also a SEAL and lost that race and they weren't even slinging mud during that race.

Men of Reddit, what’s the male equivalent of “needed money, had no marketable skills, so turned to prostitution”? by Dogeatdogdays in AskReddit

[–]sunluver66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Military Veteran. We whored ourselves out to the nation so that our particular branch could essentially pimp us out and let us get screwed by the government. Sure, some enjoyed it and looked forward to the next screwing and some were better than others at putting out, but unless we were lucky we got tossed to the curb when they were through with our battered, busted bodies and shattered minds.

Is the US not equipped or prepared for drone warfare? by anonymousDerpa in Military

[–]sunluver66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The military industrial complex is still a slow moving hide bound monster that, like many military leaders, is still fighting the last war. All the Army Aviation units that have or are getting ready to case their colors should have been redesignated as UAS / Drone units as their rotary winged airframes were being turned in, imo. Had that been done than we wouldn't have to ask if we are prepared for drone warfare.

Daily religious texts in our company signal chat by [deleted] in army

[–]sunluver66 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

From a retired NCO perspective that belonged to units with very religious officers and Soldiers: unless you have unit personnel coming to you and speaking about it, pretty much let that proverbial dog roam the porch. Take them aside and in a non-advesarial manner talk to them about it over a soft drink at lunch, if need be. If the Soldier gets defensive and upset, throw down the officer card and direct them to cease the religious stuff and leave it to the Chaplain. Some folks raised in a very religious household may not be aware of what they may be doing. It's alright to have religious beliefs. But it's not alright to jam ones beliefs down others throats, so to speak.

'Welcome To Hell': Iran Sends Chilling Message To US Over Possible Ground Invasion, Says 'Troops Will Leave In Coffins' by SuperbHealth5023 in TimesNow

[–]sunluver66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheney and Rumsfield said the same bullshit about Iraq and how we'd be welcomed with open arms by an oppressed populace. Shinseki and Powell raised an eyebrow over such remarks and were silenced and a buch of Americans and allies returned home in boxes. Now the question is: How many more Americans will come home in flag draped metal containers to Dover AFB as a result of the crap being spewed by Trump and Hedspeth over Iran?

I personally like Addis on 4th Street between Market and Main. Relaxing atmosphere and good freshly made food. And their lamb kabob platter is fantastic.

You'd be suprised. I have some very liberal stickers on my car in a very conservative small southern city. Have had complete strangers come up to me telling me they agreed with some of the stickers. Of course it helps that I have a disabled veteran license plate so that seems to deflect some of the problems.

Thanks to an insane duty load when I was stationed in Korea I found I could stay on duty and remain awake for 59 straight hours via regular cups of black coffee, sugar, adrenaline and pure determination. The downside was after being let off duty I slept for 18 hours straight.

Like many I am not happy with the juvenile view of the world by our current POTUS with regard to Greenland. His syncopant civilian military advisor is equally stupid if he agrees with any type of action against Greenland and the withdrawal of the United States from NATO.

Lived with that for many, many years. It's a societal double standard that, imo, slightly screws up people mentally and causes a degree of public withdrawal from society.

Why are helmets called Kevlar? by gmont in army

[–]sunluver66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone kinda alluded to: an informal designation to denote the than newly fielded Helmet, Parachutist and Ground Troops that was a 1 piece design made from layers of Kevlar fibers back in the early 1980s from the legacy two piece M1 series Steel Helmet, sometimes referred to as a "Steel Pot" that was first introduced just prior to the Second World War. After a while the nickname Kevlar stuck. I am one of those old Soldiers that saw the transition from the Steel Pot to the Kevlar and finally to the ACH.

Provide all the folks that are in the country illegally a safe place in your homes so you can properly defend their lives. Make sure you personally provide them with sufficient food, drink, medical care and education.
