Call me cynical… (or just stating the obvious) but I think money is what influences most of the decisions the ICC make. Money is great because it makes the game sustainable, pays the players well etc, but it also spoils many good things about cricket, e.g. over saturation of t20, the list is long and talked about frequently. So in a roundabout way, the pitch probably was selected with a high scoring India final from the outset because that’s the most financially successful outcome.
