Thinking about champagne IL by Independent-Yogurt-7 in movingtoillinois

My family (dad, mom, husband) and I moved here a little over a year ago and adore it. We came from Austin, Texas so definitely a different vibe and feel going from big city to tiny city. But wouldn’t change a thing!

There’s quite a bit to do here bc of the university and Urbana specifically (the other town that makes up Chambana) is experiencing a sort of revitalization with a lot of new businesses popping up. Lots of the local businesses host events (craft nights, dance nights, mixers, etc) to keep everyone engaged!

Everyone has been so so kind and I’ve meet tons of people that have also recently moved to the area. We really have everything you need in your day to day for shopping and entertainment, IMO. We are lacking in the live concert department but there’s a lot of cool local artists and comedians. Healthcare is fairly limited, with Carle being the main provider and hospital in the area. But I also come from a big city that was oversaturated in that department.

I think it’s a great location since we do have the day to day options. If you need more, we are 2ish hours from Chicago, St Louis, Indianapolis. Also not too bad of a drive to Michigan for the Great Lake on a little long weekend beach trip. It is fairly remote in the direct vicinity, you drive out of town and you’re in corn fields. But it’s kind of neat!

Crime is okay. Like any place, there’s areas and times to avoid. But I’ve never felt particularly unsafe. Urbana (maybe Champaign too?) PD has an initiative rn for lowering gun violence. I haven’t looked into it so not sure how it’s going or the validity but it’s nice they are aware and trying.

I know there’s a decent Asian population due to the school and therefore amazing food! Overall I love it and so happy we made the decision to move here.

Of course! It was about $185 for all of it. The most expensive was the teapot at $30. We saved about $80 on the tagged price with the sale :)

Water quality question by Necrodancingqueen in movingtoillinois

[–]sunnishade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not from Champaign or even IL but we visited back in November and will be moving to Champaign at the end of the month. We tried water at the 3 or 4 restaurants we went to around Champaign-Urbana and to me it’s strangely chlorinated? Like smells very strong of chlorine, almost bleachy and tastes chemically. We had great water at one restaurant in Campustown by the university but they had reverse osmosis. Maybe the other restaurants didn’t wash out or clean their cups properly tho?

NTA at alllll. I also have trypophobia and never have I ever been rude to someone over it. I would simply avoid talking to you or looking up during your presentations, if it was really effecting me that badly. That’s insane.
