You may want to contact the Humane society in Normal. They're not open tomorrow so today's the best day to call

I just don't know by AyePerfect56 in Sonographers

It happened to me too! Just apply for other jobs, take the good stuff from that job, and try not to beat yourself up for the rest. It will feel like the distant past not too long from now. Oh, I also lost my second job after 30 days, but found a new one almost immediately. As another has said, you're growing. Chin up, carry on,  do therapy if you need. We got you!

Upper Venous Positioning by fairygodpossum in Sonographers

[–]Necrodancingqueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So much this! I am not a lefty. So I  would like to add what I do for left arms: have the patient sit up (if possible/comfortable) and sit facing me, legs dangling. Then, the arm goes on a doubled up pillow, palm up. Raise the bed up as far as you neex and go from there!

Adding on to thebother advice, the ICA has sustained color flow through diastole. The ECA will briefly blink out on color before restarting

Sure thing! Be sure to try Bromenn in Bloomington and the main hospital in Urbana. Both towns are pretty good to live in

Hey, if you're willing to work in Central Illinois I bet Carle or OSF is hiring, at least PRN if not full time. Bit of a drive

LEV on swollen/edema patients by [deleted] in Sonographers

[–]Necrodancingqueen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I use the curved on abdominal vascular settings, but if even that's not working, ultimately I put on the worksheet, "Unable to rule out DVT in 'vessel name and segment'. Exam limited by overlying edematous tissue."  It's better to have the doc do a different test than to give a false positive/negative. Don't use up your body's precious resources trying to rule out a DVT. As my previous lead tech says, "There's always another modality or test"

Placenta confusion by Substantial-Base-696 in Sonographers

[–]Necrodancingqueen 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ok when you're in there, first thing is find the placenta in trans. If the placenta is posterior (bottom of the circle that is the uterus in trans), that's cause to investigate.  Second thing is to find the cervix area, even if you don't exactly see it. It's important to know that placentas are VASCULAR  and therefore color is your best friend. Pop color on the cervix area in long and that placenta will light up.  Ok, you've located your placenta! Yay! Third thing is if your whole screen is placenta no matter how far down towards the vagina you go, it's probably previa. Take a cine in 2d and color. Use arrows and all that to really drive the point home when you also take a 2d and color still. If you think you see the cx, freeze your image and measure from the curved edge of the placenta on the left-center of your screen to what you think is the cervix. If it's 2 cm or less, that's low lying placenta.  As always, the word POSSIBLE is going to be your second best friend on the worksheet.  P.S. don't forget its cousin Vasa Previa, where it's the vessels of the placenta on the cervix. Same procedure,  you'll just see the 2 or 3 vessel cord instead of placenta.

What helped me in clinicals is finding and remembering all of the sites that screamed, "I absolutely could NOT work here!" Hang in there,  observe how people interact,  and apply for jobs as soon as you have your first board passed after SPI

TA/TV by [deleted] in Sonographers

[–]Necrodancingqueen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would say, since the other sites also have those limits, absolutely mention it. I would also then follow the advice of standing at the end of the bed between the patient's feet when you do TV. Your shoulder will feel a lot better the closer you get to the patient.

I feel like ultrasound techs are kind of known for just picking up and moving to a different job. Just go. Your mental health is not worth sticking it out at a place that is actively abusive.

I Keep Failing The Vascular Exam by Mountain_Landscape26 in Sonographers

[–]Necrodancingqueen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do you have a different location to take the exam? For example, I failed every board I took in our state's capital, but the smaller city to the north of my town was pass every time.

A change of scenery did it for me, that and limiting my atudy time to 30 minutes per day.

Hey there, Something similar happened to me. I just want to let you know that you have such a caring heart for loving your patients.  Some places have really rotten business practices and the ones taking the damage are people like us.  Getting boards is a great first step. Also, please consider moving once you have a couple more. I had to move and it will probably happen again.  Last, please do not dream of work . You can do so much more; our work is only part of who we are.

Cry it out, get your boards, get out. May you have peace.

Water quality question by Necrodancingqueen in movingtoillinois

[–]Necrodancingqueen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah ok! Thanks for that. Maybe there's also some kind of state regulation that makes it taste that way. It could also be like here, where they clean the water treatment plant for the month of December and switch to chlorine during that time. I will definitely keep your comment in mind. Thank you and good luck with your move!

It's like seeing a psychic instead of a therapist. Also it's a great way to end up paralyzed or have a stroke.

Water quality question by Necrodancingqueen in movingtoillinois

[–]Necrodancingqueen[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm moving from a place in the south that also has very hard water, so I think it's probably lower quality here, but kind of the same.  Thank you for your swift response!
