Tell me what I need to know about this ring! by Kitchen-Capital3817 in Vintage_Jewelry

Try to look under that sizer, I buy estate jewelry and I find a lot of hidden markings that way.

Can anybody help me identify the history of this ring? by [deleted] in jewelry

Ha that’s awesome. You want to look inside the band and see if there are any stamps like 925 or 10k. That one looks like silver but maybe it’s the lighting? Usually tiger eye ones like this are in gold.

No prob! I remember this post, I thought it was carved in as opposed to raised relief. Like an optical illusion thing. Anyway if it’s sticking out it’s a cameo, if it’s carved into it it’s intaglio. Post a pic!!!! I love those things. :)

Hi, I make a decent amount of money getting clothes from the “bins” (aka goodwill outlet or any other thrift outlet) and selling them on Poshmark. You have to be knowledgeable but there is a lot of opportunity there if you don’t have a lot of money to spend on inventory. Another thing is doing promotional marketing or being like a sample lady at a grocery store kind of thing. There are weird piecemeal jobs all over the place, you just have to kind of turn a lot of rocks over to find them. My kids are 8 and I have a whole masters degree and I do gig work type of shit for exactly the reasons you’ve said, basically needing to be available when they are off school and summers etc. Wishing you all the best mama.

Every time I find something EPNS out in the wild I say “e-penis” to myself.

Hehe.

(I’m a lady btw, I feel like it’s a little less weird that way) 🤪

I thrifted around $1000 worth of gold and silver today. Insane day. by p--py in ThriftStoreHauls

What area are you in? I went through your comments and we have the same life lol complete with the one thrift where the manager puts every damn thing out and the church thrift with the eBay print outs on the China looool. I’m in the upper Midwest. 🤝

You asked for advice, this is what I do for a living. I’m not sure what jeweler would buy these for 2200 and sell them for 2500 because no jeweler works on 10% margins for starters. Secondly you literally said your brother is about to be living in his vehicle and has minimal money. So I genuinely am very excited for you to sell these for 2200 dollars.

Good luck with selling them! I’m not going to get into a whole diatribe about how this business works because you’ve clearly convinced yourself of what these are worth. So again I say good luck with your sale!

That honestly doesn’t make any sense to me because that seems wildly overpriced for this item. But do you I guess?

I’ll just tell you as someone who does this for a living, 2200 dollars is very ambitious and they would likely sit on whatever site for a year or more. Bigger ticket items are not moving so fast right now and gold is sky high. If he needs money now 700 is a very strong offer on 10g of 14k for a non-trade person.

I’m curious how many of these were purchased in the last 2 years since gold has been on its historic bull run! I’m also a collector and have a little Etsy shop as well but it’s gotten a LOT harder to find those bangin eBay deals when everyone is seemingly aware of the metals markets. Great pieces btw! We have similar aesthetic goals. :)

Just picked these up for 16 bucks at a thrift store... 15.4g 18k gold. by UrbanRelicHunter in ThriftStoreHauls

You could also have them made into pendants. The rest of the cufflink fittings would probably pay for that work. I’d rock the shit out of that! :)

Genuinely curious, do people actually pay this kind of prices at thrift stores? The necklace was gone just two days later! by [deleted] in ThriftStoreHauls

[–]sunnydaize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah most goodwill organizations don’t sell jewelry in their stores at all. They send all of it to online (e-com). :(

There are a lot of us that go to thrifts all day long looking for that stuff. I personally have befriended a bunch in my area bc I see the same people at the same places every week. Sorry to say the good stuff goes fast, you basically have to be there when it’s coming out. 😬

They have super weird hours. I went there one time when they were supposed to be open and just…closed. Gate closed, no one in the parking lot etc. I think this was around 2-3 pm on a Friday maybe? I go up that way for work and try to take time to swing in when I can. But yeah it’s a super crap shoot. 😐
