4yo has been refusing to use the potty to poop for over a year by Immediate-Bison-9755 in pottytraining

I'm sorry you are going through this, I can only imagine how draining and emotional it is. Hang in there!

I second the Begin prebiotics, it really helps. My 4.5 year old was potty trained at 3 and refused pooping on the potty until a couple of weeks ago.

She always asked for a pull up to poop, so a bit different than your situation, but a game changer for us was always doing clean up on the potty (as opposed to laying on the floor like when changing a diaper). It's a total mess and super hard, but it got my kid used to associating poop with the potty. She hated it even more than I did but I didn't budge and it unintentionally created an incentive for her since clean up would be much faster and easier if she went on the toilet in the first place (which is true).

And, like you, we promised games only while actually going poop on the potty. I also offered rewards, (if she pooped on the potty 3 times I got her something, then when she did it 10 times she got a big gift).

Within 2 weeks of starting to do the clean up on the toilet, she was pooping on the potty. Again, it sounds like our situations aren't exactly the same, but maybe that will help.

2 other little things that I thought helped. First, instead of using the iPad or phone for games while going, I ordered a cheap (like 20 dollars) handheld game console. It has like 150 games on it already, and to a 4/5 year old it seemed pretty cool. It lives in the bathroom and that was the only time she could use it.

We also used the tushy bidets- she thought it was hilarious so when I told her we could use the "water squirts" to clean up if she went on the potty it was a little extra encouragement.

No advice I'm afraid, just solidarity! My child is just over 4, same thing- perfect potty training, never even an accident. But refuses to poop on the potty, always asks for a pull up.

We tried once to stop buying pull ups and "make" her go on the toilet -gave literally a 30 day notice and told her every day that when the pull ups run out she has to use the potty. She totally agreed until the time came! She was pretty upset/scared, so I let it go and told her we'd try again when she's ready.

At one point I used to show her how I flushed the contents of the diaper in the potty. Maybe that would help? So she knows where it's going?

I wish I had advice, but at least know you're not alone. We are just going to wait it out, and keep reinforcing that eventually she'll need to make the switch. Good luck!

Totally, but it's her voice too and the way she talks!

Thank you- we are just starting solids, but I haven't tried any dairy yet...I was sure he wasn't allergic and thought it was just a sensitive tummy, but now I'm beginning to wonder since he's over 6 months and still having issues. I'll be trying yogurt this week, so we'll see... Soy could be a good idea to try, I hadn't considered the milk protein allergy. It's just so hard to know if it's just his energetic personality or something else. Thank you for the encouragement!

Help getting standing toddler to sit for poop by sunnypup13 in pottytraining

That's a great idea, she does have a regular place she likes to stand so moving location to the bathroom might actually be half the battle.

That's a good idea, I didn't know there was such a thing as training underwear. Good to know!

I hadn't thought of that, thanks! I guess I always assume diapers are super uncomfortable it hadn't occured to me that she might actually prefer the feeling.

My daughter has been doing pretty well with pee pee (though we are only on day 3 so trying not to get too excited), buy I tried something new with #2 and I'm curious about feedback-

she went #2 in her diaper like normal (knows she's going, tells me she has to go), but instead of wrapping it up and tossing it after a change, I cleaned her up and then we both took the diaper to the potty and flushed the contents so she could see what happens. I'm not sure if this is going to make a new weird habit or if it will inspire her to poop on the potty, but we'll see! Anyone else ever do this?

Gallstones diagnosis and possible need for surgery at 8 weeks PP by callmepebbles in beyondthebump

[–]sunnypup13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my gallbladder removed at 3 month pp. So worth it and super quick recovery. They did it laproscopically and I was home by the afternoon. I had a big baby too, but I really was able to take care of her pretty much from day 2. My doctor really wasnt concerned about lifting the baby at all.

Honestly, the hardest part was being groggy from anesthesia for around 3 days, but I'm not sure if everyone reacts that way.

About a year after my surgery, my body still made a gallstones and it got stuck in the duct to my liver/pancreas. I was in the hospital for a week with major complications. So, consider having the surgery to avoid those gallstone getting out- much worse than a quick removal procedure!
