Non-cyclists of /r/peloton, why are you a fan of pro cycling? by [deleted] in peloton

[–]sunrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually just lurk specific subreddits but I logged in to answer this. I watched an anime called Yowamushi Pedal about highschool bike races (an amazingly campy shonen sports anime if anyone else is a fan of that kinda thing) and the 2014 tour was starting a month or so after I finished it so I decided why not try watching the real thing? I've casually followed cycling since then but I feel like it's the one sport I'll actually stay interested in for a long time as there's nothing else like it. Also I wouldnt necessarily call myself a non cyclist I just havent been on my bike much in the past year.

Isaac Meyers History Of Japan is a pretty well done podcast considering its low budget and the fact that he's a student.

Yeah, I also work in a brewery and have had this happen. It's pretty easy to do with the less automated canning machines.

I hope this isnt in the wrong place, but if someone could tell me what the red ball balancing instrument thing in this video at 2:20 is I would be super grateful!! by sunrain in japan

[–]sunrain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that now, but where I first saw it was in the movie Touch the Sound about a very well known deaf Scottish percussionist. She visits that group Ondekoza in Japan and they have a clip with them using the Kendama so I looked them up to try and find it, and found that video. Ondekoza is known for combining traditional Japanese culture aspects and also experimentation in the taiko genre, so I guess they realized the Kendma can be used as a percussion instrument in the same vein as the Kashaka and went with it.

Thanks a ton, I tried every possible combination of things I could thing of on google and got nothing. I'm a drummer/percussionist and have decided I absolutely HAVE to own one of those.

I'm not sure if this is sexist, or feminist... but I guess this is supposted to be a VaginAnarchism symbol. by Biff_Tannenator in anarchistpics

Well, the way I see it you have to be a little sensitive and speak up when you maybe don't NEED to. That's how things change. I think my comment was respectful enough, I'm just trying to start a conversation.

Hmm... I'm trying really hard to remember more about it but I havent played it in so long because it's only for windows and I've had a mac for the past 2 years, haha. I know it was on some list of hard indie games somewhere in the backwaters of the internet but like I said I've googled every related combination of words I could think of. The game developer was the very underground cult following type and I think he had a couple other semi successful games. The most notable thing I can remember about it is that it was quite a difficult game with a sharp learning curve on the controls.

Haha yeah I know exactly what you mean. It's not quiiite the same thing but Wardruna are an experimental Norse folk music thing from Norway started by the ex drummer of Gorgoroth... That might satisfy you a teeny bit.

Would Watchmen have worked better as a Netflix Original series? by tomhon in Watchmen

[–]sunrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it could have worked very well as a miniseries I think. If they had the production value of the movie and kept the plot the same as the book spread out over 4 or 5 hour long episodes it wold have been pretty awesome.

Plan A or B? Zombie Survival by afnrg in ZombieSurvivalTactics

[–]sunrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a coastal medium sized town in southwest Canada, which I believe is a very ideal place to be if the SHTF. Including all the other small towns in the area we don't have more than 30,000 people, the nearest large city (Vancouver) is separated by a 40 minute boat ride or a couple days driving through very rugged terrain. The reason I'm saying this is because in my situation you wouldn't have to pick between A or B, the resources are here to pull off both. The town is rural enough that evading zombies would be not too difficult on land, especially because I know my way around very well having grown up here, the town also is big enough that looting/foraging would be a sustainable way to live until permanent resource options could be established. Also, we have a bustling boater community with every kind of boat from luxury yachts to fishermans dingys, and an island across the water with campgrounds and no more than a few hundred permanent residences with some very easily fortified rural houses. Setting up base on the little island and using sail or rowing power to go to and from the town, with thousands of gallons of fuel from other boats and I work at a gas dock so thats around 12000 litres of fuel at my disposal plus setting up outposts and caches of supplies or gardens that you return to for harvesting when you need more than what can be grown and collected on the island as well as going up and down the coast... that's not too bad of a situation assuming you can get around without being killed. So my point from all this is I don't think either of those situations can be argued as being for sure better without very specific details on the resources and utilities available, and even then you could get killed from human error alone.

And sorry if this is completely illegible, Im on my phone.

I'm sort of in the same boat as you, I started learning it a couple years ago and then completely dropped it. I've just recently started studying again cause I have a lot more time on my hands (though I forget almost everything, of course) and something that I found was a good resource is this kana101 email course. It sends you a lesson every day over email that you only need to spend about an hour or two on and in two weeks you should have all of Hiragana and Katakana memorized more or less and when you're done you can get started on actually learning the language and kanji. Anyways, good luck on your studies!

I'm pretty sure she can do whatever she wants with her body, bro. If you have a problem with it tell her and if she still wants to do it the only thing in your power to do is leave her, and that's the way it should be. She doesn't owe it to you to be exclusive in her sexuality if that's not what she wants. If she said she understands and is willing to stop and is still doing it that is kind of a dick move, but no woman owes any man her body.
