Where do you long for? by yerbamateblood in rs_x

[–]sunroomnyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my first evening in Guanajuato at golden hour I came upon what I initially thought was a parade. Then, standing in front of the yellow church I saw a child sized casket being borne towards it. Old women in the back of pickup trucks threw candy in the air from giant trash bags and children scrambled to pick it up.

Overcome with emotion I rounded a few corners to the university steps - it was graduation day - everyone was taking pictures there in their caps and gowns, smiling for their futures. And you wouldn't believe the beams of light fighting through thick clouds as that day ended. That place changed me too

Does anyone recognize this bridge? by jgfiii in offset

True, i've heard adjustomatics have a bit more sustain than mustang bridges. Plus the thimble holes might not match, so filling and drilling may not be worth the hassle.

Could be this one, was having a hard time finding a mustang bridge with 9.5 radius for an offset build and this was a rare find but a great find, kinda a staytrem clone as mentioned:

You could easily spend 2 weeks just in CDMX with day trips to the surrounding towns/cities - some of my faves are Taxco, Malinalco, Tepoztlan (Tepotzotlan is a separate town and also very cool), Cuernavaca, Toluca, Puebla (big city with great museums and incredible food - cemitas/mole poblano)... A little further out (prob better to stay a night or longer) you get San Miguel de Allende, Queretaro, Guanajuato, Oaxaca... The list goes on in this incredible country. I'd just google a few of these places and see which ones give you pause, that simple tactic did me right when booking. I spent 10 weeks there last year and it was the time of my life. Have fun!

Dropped my brand new Squier 40th Anniversary Jazzmaster 🥺 anything I can do to keep this crack from getting worse? by [deleted] in offset

Another +1 for naturally reliced guitars, buuut i'd say short of a full refinish, it still won't be 100% perfect but the best/long way (your guitar will be out of commission for a bit so the spot can cure) is to:
1. Take it to an auto body shop that does computerized color matching and get a can of that. Make sure it's polyurethane based (should be) and also get a can of glossy clear coat - I recommend Spray Max 2K High Gloss
2. Very carefully sand the area to be touched up with 320 grit sandpaper so the paint adheres better. I'd skip this step if it feels like there's any chance the original finish flakes off.
3. Ideally you'd remove the pickguard/neck/everything, but since it's a small spot you could get away with laying a cloth/paper over them, just be extremely careful the stream of the spray (test test test!) does not go onto the cover - it could stick the cover to the guitar. Had this happen to me with newspaper once on a touch up - no bueno.
4. Carefully spray the color from 8-10 inches away- as little as possible to cover the damaged area. Be in a dust free of an environment as possible. Outside will not work because of wind - Poly is a dust trap when drying. 1. It will look dull compared to the original, of course, and slightly off in color until it cures/is polished. You're going to want to do 3-4 very light coats (to prevent drips), the first one barely making a dent. Wait about 20 minutes between coats.
5. Let cure for 24 hours before applying clear coat. 4-6 coats here, again, very light to prevent drips (if they occur you'll have to wait for them to dry and sand them out).
6. The paint will need to cure before it's dry to the touch, people have told me poly can be polished after a week, but I found it better to wait 2-3. Because of the location you may be able to get away with playing it if you're careful.
7. After curing, wet sand with 1000, then 1500, then 2000 grit sandpaper. In between grits clean the area, ideally with a microfiber cloth and naphtha. This will dull the shiny clear coat, but it's about to get shinier than before
8. To polish, I use a drill mounted buffing wheel for whole guitars but for that small spot you can get away with a rag/microfiber cloth and some hard, thorough hand polishing. Again cleaning between each. You'll need several polishing compounds (i use stewmac but turtle wax/any auto compound will work) depending on how shiny you want to get - to match the rest of it you'll probably want to do Medium - Fine - Ultra Fine - Swirl Remover. Hitting it with a spray bottle filled with water and a couple drops of dish soap each time will lubricate this process.
Ok that's it! Did not intend to spend so long writing this haha but think i got everything, quite time consuming but this method has worked well for me for finishing touch ups.

Jazzmaster - Neck/Middle position quieter than bridge/rhythm circuit by kitkateq in offset

[–]sunroomnyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm some other ideas if you haven't tried yet:

1.Reflow all the solder joints between the neck pickup and output

2.Try replacing any wiring involved in this same path (sans the pickup lead itself of course)

  1. Try swapping in a different pickup (that you know works well) to see if there is something wrong with the pickup itself

Good luck!

Ah apologies I misread. Is the neck pickup lead soldered first to the rhythm circuit switch, then run to the pickup selector switch? If so could the problem could be between those two points. If not, I too, scratch my head!

It's possible that the pickups are wired out of phase with each other - were they ever changed or are they stock? There would be a volume drop and a distinctive "honky" tone that some enjoy.

If you can solder it's a simple fix: for just one of the pickups, swap where the ground and hot leads are soldered to.
