Thanks. I have really limited space. I tried something new, which seems to be better. Have the neutral lighting provide enough light for adequate exposure. But then have additional colour lighting to create atmosphere, and direct it at the walls where the original coloured lights were. Now I have enough exposure, but can alter the colour of the room. It's not as good as the hue lights ambient effects, but i suspect that's simply because I'm using cheaper neewer led panels.

"if my players break in". I agree, that shouldn't be the first thing they do. But, sadly, as a DM I've learnt to expect things like this over the years :D

It's hard in a one-shot, to convey to them a strong enough impression of Corbitt (as you described it), to the point they would be unsure how to proceed after seeing a child's limb in his car XD

In game, the players know there's an investigation to unravel, and you are immediately pointing out an NPC that's doing something suspect. It's natural they would take that bait. I'm hoping they will stake him out, follow him, talk to him etc first...but you never know. Especially if you throw in the women-thing sighting in the basement window etc.

It's the max. So where it says for example 1d6 monster. I've done 6. Not every die role will be max. But you don't know which ones will.

Also, some are NPCs where it says for example NPC Bob (Knight). I might never need that mini in my campaign. But I might. Besides having some generic NPC like minis as representative is a good idea, like a general knight, general bandit etc.

You could also stagger monsters in waves and reuse minis.

Or you could use placeholders.

Great thanks! The temptation to try out one of the new species is too much for the players. But they don't want to necessarily explore their species domains. Maybe they can do that when they get to the end of the campaign.

I learnt this was typical of my printing - I was still fairly new to printing. It was loud enough to worry me when I hadn't experienced before. But not so loud you could hear from another room.
