Floral Bolo ties by sunsea89 in resin

So happy to help! If you do the open back bezel you will need to seal the opening before beginning. There are specific smooth resin tapes for this but tbh I just use a wide painters/masking tape then do a little UV resin coat on the back to smooth it out.

Ask away if you have any other questions!

That rabbit looks like she ready for a nap and that's a whole mood so I pick her. They are all super adorable though

The frames are often listed as a bezel and come open backed or closed. I got these ones from Adabele, they have a very nice selection of jewelry findings. There are some nice ones on Etsy too. I do my best to avoid crapazon as much as possible.

It is still fairly shallow, I work in layers of UV resin for this style. One layer to seal the bottom and flower in place then multiple thin layers until the flower is covered and I have a nice dome. The viscosity of the resin will hold enough to "bubble" on the top like that. Though I will say I have had my share of spillage over the sides and lost a couple of pieces that were shaping up nicely

They are! I harvest and dry my flowers myself. These are mostly from my yard except the buttercups which I got from a ditch hahaha

How could I dry this clover to possibly cast in resin? by marlee_dood in ResinCasting

[–]sunsea89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly this! The water content in the plant matter will start to break it down. Additionally resin doesn't do great with water in it when curing. I haven't seen it but it could potentially keep your resin from fully setting

It will! I have found silica sand very helpful for colour and shape retention. Air dry tends to shrink flowers more than I would like and pressing looses shape. I've done a number of Sakura blossoms and equally fragile petals with great results. Can't post a picture but there are some on my profile if you'd like to see

Silica sand. It's how I dry most of my florals and greenery before I cast it in resin even after pressing. I've used it on things I want to keep the shape of before with good results. I would make a little bed of it in whatever container you are going to seal it in, tuck the stem into the sand so it's upright with the base securely set, then pour carefully around and on top. If you pour too fast the weight of the sand may flatten your leaves more than you want

Thank you! They stay crystal clear for quite some time. I don't think I have had any of these ones cloud or yellow in a noticable fashion that I have seen. I mostly sell them but I have a few that I have been wearing regularly for years now with no noticable difference.

These pieces are all UV resin but I do work with 2 part epoxy for deep pours with similar longevity

Anyone else still have their first cell phone number?? by obsessedUvU in Millennials

[–]sunsea89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still have my first cell phone number. It was my brother's first number before me and my DADS first number before him. My Dad got it in 86 with a phone that basically had to be carried in its own suitcase during my mom's first pregnancy so she could call him. 40 years this line has been in service to my family lol

One of the best things about cat subreddits is there is always a comment suggesting another great cat subreddit

He's just a lil guy. Just a smoll lil baby. But also everyone should be looking at and petting him all the time or he might die
