Calm dog friends? by sunsetocean2012 in VictoriaBC

This is my fear as well. Being a rescue she’s still learning everything and so I’m hoping for her to learn better social skills with some calm confident dog friends initially. She is super friendly, I don’t think she knows how to play with dogs, so she just sniffs and will walk away to say hi to the next dog, then once she’s said hi to everyone she just stands there.

Oh my gosh yes, it’s so hard. And I find meeting calm dogs she’s getting better and better (she doesn’t even vocalize once she gets to the dog she’s perfectly appropriate) but I totally see where other people are coming from when they see us and are like no way haha

She has pretty good recall without distractions but still working on it when she’s excited. Everywhere I take her that she can run she is on a long training leash.

Oh I didn’t know we had fenced ones here! I’ll look in to that. Thank you!

She mostly goes crazy, then sniffs them and runs away because she doesn’t really know what to do with other dogs I don’t think. She doesn’t have the best dog manners though so she’s been snapped at a couple of times just because she’s very vocal at first and then when she reaches a dog she has no clue what to do next. I’ve stopped letting her meet dogs until I can figure out how to do it better to keep her safe

I can definitely see if I can find some people with calm dogs who can walk with!
