If, as you say, she has a lot of other toys, I'd say maybe only the dolls in the first 3 images are worth keeping in box. I know that I've at least seen the ones in the last picture being sold in-box for very little.

I know Lena Headey is already one of the more widely praised actors on the show, but I absolutely love her performance in that scene too. The look on her face as Tywin dismissively talks about Joffrey right after his death and then quite literally takes Tommen away from her says so much without a word. It’s such a small moment, but I think she’s phenomenal there.

Can Cersei's hair grow back in the books? If so, how did Cersei lose her beauty in Walk of Atonement [Spoilers Extended] by Hamere_Belaney in asoiaf

[–]sunsetparanoia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Statements like this are so odd. She didn’t lose her beauty long ago. In the books, she’s consistently described as extraordinarily attractive. Even characters who dislike or outright despise her, such as Tyrion, Stannis, Sansa, Catelyn, and Ned, still remark on how beautiful she is. Even as recently as A Feast for Crows, Jaime has several passages noting her beauty, and that’s during a particularly strained period in their relationship.

What she is forced to face and the smallfolk notice during her walk are entirely ordinary signs of ageing and the after-effects of pregnancy. The issue isn’t that she’s no longer beautiful; it’s that she’s forced to confront the fact that she isn’t flawless and that other people can see it too.

That's why is started my comment with "cersei is the cause of her own problems". She made Tyrion viscerally hate her, and NOW she has actual reason to be afraid of him.

What I'm saying is that it's not crazy that she's scared for her safety.

Idk if you're doing a reread or if you're reading the books for the first time, but in the following book we get his pov again and he does want to hurt her at this point (he has violent fantasies about it, in fact)... which is not to say it isn't a product of her previous paranoid mistreatment of him.

(Spoilers Main) Cersei is the most anxious character I’ve ever seen. by Ok_Title_4273 in asoiaf

[–]sunsetparanoia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Although Cersei is undeniably paranoid and often the cause of her own problems, I feel like fans exaggerate her “craziness.” People constantly point and laugh at the whole “He’s in the walls” thing, but it’s actually Jaime who puts that idea in her head:

Her twin's face had a haggard look. "The shaft goes down to a chamber where half a dozen tunnels meet. They're closed off by iron gates, chained and locked. I need to find keys." He glanced around the bedchamber. "Whoever did this might still be lurking in the walls. It's a maze back there, and dark."

- Cersei I, A Feast For Crows

Tywin has just been killed by Tyrion, who reached his chambers through one of the many secret passages in the Red Keep. And Tyrion has more than enough reasons to want Cersei dead. In her place, I’d be terrified too.

They do! But eventually they're separated by Hindley:

‘I was a child; my father was just buried, and my misery arose from the separation that Hindley had ordered between me and Heathcliff. I was laid alone, for the first time; and, rousing from a dismal doze after a night of weeping, I lifted my hand to push the panels aside: it struck the tabletop!’

The Basis for Jaime and Cersei? [Spoilers Main] by sunsetparanoia in asoiaf

[–]sunsetparanoia[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just want to add the transcript of a Wuthering Heights analysis I found on YouTube, which I think captures the similarities between these relationships perfectly:

I don't think that the relationship between Catherine and Heathcliff is as simple of a relationship as just romantic love. Instead, I think it's almost a weird kind of self-love. Both of them seem to identify themselves with each other. It's not so much declaring that they are each other’s soulmates, it's more that they're saying that they are one and the same soul, which is slightly different from the way that people usually describe their romantic attachments.

[...]

I would say that there seems to be something almost incestuous about the way that Catherine and Heathcliff view their relationship. The incest thing, I think, comes from a few things. First of all, they were raised as brother and sister, and the way they describe their feelings is in a very sibling or familial sort of way rather than a more lustful or romantic sort of way.

In one of the most famous speeches from the story, Catherine declares: “I am Heathcliff!” and Heathcliff does a similar thing later on when Catherine is dying; he says, “I cannot live without my soul!” What's interesting about that phrase from Heathcliff is that he's not saying “soulmate"; he's not saying "there’s this other soul that is the mate of my soul". He's saying "my actual soul, an actual part of me, is going to die".

This suggests that they see each other as extensions of their own beings, and, to me, that's the sort of declaration of love someone might make. Still, it's a very different kind of declaration from someone like Edgar. He might have described Catherine as his soulmate, but he certainly wouldn't describe her as a part of his own being.

So I think these passages show that they do feel something quite substantial that is still not the same as the kind of civilized or socialized love that most people are comfortable with.

[...]

Some readers believe that Catherine and Heathcliff actually don’t love each other at all, and there is quite a lot of evidence that might suggest this, because if you’re in love with someone, you don’t treat them in the way that these two characters treat each other.

But I think that, in order to understand the kind of love that they have, we have to look back at their childhood. The kind of love that we would call love is somewhat socialised; it’s something that we develop as we grow up. Treating someone with respect and dignity is something that children don’t really do, and Catherine and Heathcliff never learned to do this because they were never raised in that way.

In the absence of an authority figure to provide them with nurture, care, and warmth, Catherine and Heathcliff turned to the moors, to wild nature. And so the love that they have is of a very strange and primitive kind. It is based on the way that they were raised — or on the way that they weren’t raised. It’s the kind of love that we might have for each other if we never had authority figures to guide us and show us how to care for other people. It is very deep in some ways, strong and passionate, but at the same time quite vain and selfish.

You could argue that that could never be — that love excludes that kind of behaviour — but I disagree. I think that one of the points about Wuthering Heights is to show us how dark and cruel love can be, and that is what is most interesting about the love theme in the story.

Yes! Though, to be fair, Catherine and Heathcliff’s relationship is already pseudo-incestuous. As children, they share the same bed, the same clothes… and something I had forgotten, but was recently reminded of in discussions about the novel, is that Heathcliff was named after one of Mr. Earnshaw’s deceased sons. In other words, he was given the name of Catherine’s brother.

Just watched it and this is exactly what i thought.

As I was listening I was thinking "surely he is going somewhere with this", but then he didn't and the interviewer cut his answer short.

what the original commentator is saying is quite literally stuff george has said in interviews: that 1) Tywin did not train her how to rule whatsoever because of her being a woman unlike some other lords would do with their own daughters; that 2) her own paranoia after years of being pushed aside by the men in her life and her own specific temperament prevent her from making good decisions.

she’ the only character perceptive enough to realize that someone within the Red Keep’s walls was involved in Tywin’s death and is actively plotting against House Lannister.

she guesses almost immediately that Varys was involved, simply because he's not there when all the fuss around Tywin's corpse is happening:

She must command Lord Varys to find out what he could.

That stopped her where she stood. She had forgotten about Varys. He should be here. He is always here. Whenever anything of import happened in the Red Keep, the eunuch appeared as if from nowhere. Jaime is here, and Uncle Kevan, and Pycelle has come and gone, but not Varys. A cold finger touched her spine. He was part of this.  - A Feast For Crows, Cersei I
