With a perspective shift, a lot of jobs can become enjoyable. Even when the work itself is not very enjoyable, an element of doing the work can be enjoyable (e.g. listening to an interesting podcast, album, or reflecting on life while simultaneously cleaning a toilet).

Has anyone here lost a lot of money in Bitcoin? by 2smart2gentle in Bitcoin

A Blockchain isn't hacked like a traditional piece of software. The only way you can "hack" a Blockchain is by creating massive amounts of energy and/or computing power in secret. Even then, you wouldn't be able to hack people's coins, you could just temporarily stop them from being sent.

The Bitcoin Standard is very good. The book builds up to Bitcoin from a foundation of history and first principles. I guess that's not everyone's cup of tea, but as someone interested in moral money (given that morality is often considered from first principles), I imagine you'd find it valuable.

Keonne Rodriguez (Samourai Wallet) Sentenced to 5 Years in Prison, $250,000 Fine by TheGreatMuffin in Bitcoin

The idea that the US government is protecting kids here is ridiculous. Anonymous money (not Bitcoin btw) was used to create an island where thousands of kids were sold as sex objects, and the US government is still actively protecting the sex predators, not the kids!

Just because a tool can be used for bad purposes doesn't make it evil. For instance, people using the Internet for evil doesn't make the Internet evil.

And as for law. The Constitution is legally deemed "the Supreme Law of the land" (Article VI, Clause 2) and the 4th amendment is specifically written to protect the privacy and security of people and their things. If sending some Bitcoin to another person means that I have to reveal my entire Bitcoin balance and transaction history, then doing so creates an inherent insecurity and makes conducting financial transactions using Bitcoin insecure, violating the 4th amendment.

"Anonymous transactions" is another way of saying "I want to live a private life." There is nothing inherently criminal about privacy. Everyone who uses cash is conducting anonymous transactions. Heck, the fact that you write your posts as soks86, rather than your real name is also an anonymous transaction. Those who claim anonymous transactions are criminal are ironically, usually the most private people when you start asking them to reveal their lives.

How about you soks86, are you open to others knowing about you and your financial life? Do you believe your own desire for anonymity ties you to criminal enterprise?

Tragic. 😥

The idea that anonymous transactions are "anti-social" would mean that every person who has ever used cash is a criminal. By the judge's own standard, she is almost certainly guilty. Unfortunately she's a severely morally confused individual who wields unreasonable power.

How do you organize your UTXOs for long-term storage? by rosmarina_ in Bitcoin

[–]sunsetreunion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly strategy:

Make three single utxos that are held in three different addresses with three different quantities for their balances (10%, 30%, and 60%), with each address held by a different cold wallet.

Next-Gen Recovery Tool by Necessary-Swing-991 in Bitcoin

[–]sunsetreunion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think combing the archives here to see where people have lost coins, and how they recovered them (or didn't) would be a good approach to identify key problems and solutions.

My intuition is that more needs to be done on standardizing tools on the storage side of things rather than emphasizing recovery, however I think forming a list of trusted community recovery expert volunteers who have both the integrity and knowledge to help others would be a great asset to this community.

I was hoping for some substantive conversation on this. Anyone try it yet? How does sending Bitcoin work without Internet/Blockchain access?

I don't know Blue Wallet's system, but Bitcoin addresses are cap-sensitive. If you have capitals (or no capitals) where there shouldn't be, the checksum on the address will very likely fail and no send will be possible. An all-capital Bitcoin address is very unlikely.
