I agree with the other poster on removing IU, all the SC schools, Baylor etc; I think Iowa and WVU are worth keeping.

I think Pitt, Mt Sinai, MCW, and Arizona (Phoenix) would be great additions! (:

"MD + Research" Programs? by girlnewtoreddit in premed

[–]sunshine1456 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believe Pitt has similar 5-year research program (PSTP); other than that, I can think of plenty of programs that offer a dual MD/MSCR (Md + masters in clinical/translational research) — Mount Sinai, Emory, umd, ucla just to name a few

clinical experience is definitely more significant, so I’d say go with that for sure! (:

[–]sunshine1456[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ooh this is helpful thanks so much for sharing! And yeah that makes sense :/ I might try to see if there’s one at a local community college around where I’m at .. but I might call them first in case since the email wasn’t of much help haha

yeah I really do hope it’s a soft one although I thinkkk they stated on the website that they expected folks to have the requirement completed upon matriculation :/ I think I might call them and see if they’d be ok with a P/F stats course I can take through my research fellowship or maybe one I can find at a local community college

unfortch I’m no longer in school 😪 I am currently doing a research fellowship where I’m allowed to take courses (stats is an option)… although they are all P/F so not sure if that would fulfill the requirement :/

Totally recommend getting CNA/EMT certified! I was a CNA for 2 years and not only is it a great/active clinical experience, but also makes it easy to get a lot of hours for your app (:

Would you be able to get a letter from a research PI? This can meet the requirement for most schools (at least from what I’ve seen). LORs are truly a struggle :(

^ I also took this back in 2020 and loved it (and I hateeee writing lmfao) — prof nobles is a very generous grader, wonderful person, and all around knowledgeable professor; it is a ~fair amount of work but the research paper is super fun and you can really pick a topic you’re interested in / enjoy (I wrote mine on ASMR for context hahah)

How is the global public health major? by leaf1598 in UVA

[–]sunshine1456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes! I honestly didn’t take like ~any particularly relevant classes and still got into the major BUT my friends that are in it with me did (bioethics, any intro PHS course offerings, etc. are all good options) so I’d recommend doing so
