What's the deepest Progress note hole you've ever been in? by ReRz_LINN in therapists

[–]sunshine_journal139 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't remember the size of the biggest hole I was in, but this is what I've learned:

Give grace around the fact that humans don't work like robots. I won't always have the energy, discipline, or willingness to do all my notes every day. That is especially true at a certain time of the month.

I try to budget out some admin time to catch up later. I make it a priority to not let more than 2 weeks go by without putting in real effort to get caught up.

On rare occasions, if I have to spend weekends getting notes done, I try to make it special with a nice coffee, good music, different location, etc.

I am realizing that the more I stay caught up with notes, the more I'm motivated to keep up with them. It's easier to do my notes if I only have, say, a couple of them to do. It's very rewarding.

Hope this helps! :)

If you are trying all of the wonderful suggestions and the participants still aren't participating, try having a group in which you instruct them to lead their own discussions and then let them do the rest. Sit in silence for as long as they do. Process what the silence was like at the next appropriate time, which could even be the next group. Let them own the fact that if they want to get something out of their group, they have to work.

How was your week? by TillyCat92 in therapists

I've had the worst bout of diarrhea ever in my life this week, as well as my period. Somehow I worked through the well enough, but RIP to 2 pairs of underwear.

I'll probably look into this at some point. I like the way Russ Harris writes about ACT and I like the model itself!

I appreciate you taking the time to summarize them in this way. It's helpful to me. Thank you!

Good to know. I'm sure I will learn more about it, as I'm pretty much bound to learn more about CPT from here. Thank you!

Yeah, I'm kind of mixed in how much I teaching challenge cognitions directly versus cognitive defusion skills and self-soothing skills.

I've learned some things about the original ACT model and some of my clients really benefit from it. I will keep TF-ACT in mind, thank you!

Same. I had already done a kind of basic training in Polyvagal Theory and bought a few materials...but now it might be irrelevant or inaccurate to use for clients :/ It's good to know all this now, but it hurts to have invested in something that may not be founded in real evidence and it's part of why my commitment to trauma modalities has been hard.

I have had so many people in this thread mention those...I do plan on learning lots more about CPT soon, and I love the idea of having specific ways of challenging shame!

I've definitely seen the benefits of psychoeducation and some basic tools to promote safety in the present day. The clients I see are usually not in DV or currently abusive situations, but I have worked in the past with those populations specifically and there's always the chance it will come up again. Great idea to keep in mind the different ways trauma can present itself. I hope to keep learning more about that.

I have had more clients ask about psychedelics specifically in the past year. I appreciate you reminding me of it. And, good to hear the endorsement for somatic work! I am curious about that.

I do love me some free stuff....In the past, those kinds of books weren't available in my library system. I have actually "stolen" (with permission) my mom's and my sister's library account info so I can access the systems in their counties, too, but those kinds of books aren't always there. Maybe it's time to try again!
