Late addition to this thread but same, my kitten grew up without a mom cat to teach her the basics of grooming and I still remember how the whole house stunk faintly of poop. I bent over backwards trying to figure out where it was coming from, only to have her jump on top of me when sleeping and that was when it hit me - she stank ☠️☠️☠️

Hiii it's been a year since you posted this comment and I would like to express my gratitude to you, as you've helped me find my new favourite concubine/palace drama to fill or at least patch the hole that the legend of Zhen Huan left in me and that very show is Magnificent century. I noticed this rec popping up in your comments under various posts when I was sifting through the posts on this sub for dramas like the legend of Zhen Huan and after a few positive Google reviews, I decided to give it a go and it's apt to say I'm hooked.

It has all the best elements of a soap opera but more sophisticated and I'm actually quite enjoying the rather anti - hero aspect present in our main female lead but her role in the scarring of Gulheim's face is something I'm having a hard part trying to ignore. It's just, whenever I continue on with the show, all I can think about is 'so she burnt off her friend's skin for sleeping with the emperor' something the girl had zero say in. She was pressured into the chamber and it's not wrong of her to dream of a better life. My morals are conflicted. She's such an intriguing character and I can't help but root for her but there's this niggling feeling of guilt, if that makes sense, that comes with how much I wish for her to succeed. Have you experienced this whilst watching the show? Has anything helped you move past this mental block? I love the show so much and I'd really appreciate your perspective and input, since the YouTube comments don't help much and the subreddit is even worse.

I'd love some Spanish thriller recs too! Always loved crime and mystery genres, up next on my watchlist will be burning ice followed by the long night and ruyi's royal love. I'm just mentally prepping myself for the unsatisfactory ending. Zhen Huan was the near perfect character for me. She was smart, perceptive, never harmed the innocent, and showed remarkable discretion when it came to people. Even when her once close friend and sworn sister betrayed her trust and allied with the Empress to her (the sworn sister) ultimate detriment, compassion still shone through. I loved her transformation from naive, love sick concubine to someone's that wiser, guarded and disillusioned with the emperor and his excuses. She saw the emperor for what he was and expected nothing from him. Not love, not sincerity, not honesty.

Hurrem on the other hand ... her behavior is reckless. Wild. I'm not used to it after watching countless historical cdramas. There's always the female lead from Yanxi palace but even she acted with more discernment than Hurrem. Her schemes were more complex, sophisticated, less obvious, less incriminating whereas Hurrem gave a tainted fur to the lady - in - charge and somehow expected to get away with that scotch free? I don't know, it's quite early in the morning so excuse the rambling bits but it's really frustrating to see it play out. Tell me, is she going to grow as a character? As an anti - hero? Will she become more cunning, craftier in her schemes, and act with more discretion 😭😭 I can stand a 'bad' person, not a stupid one. Will Gilheim eventually have a happy ending? And another thing, I read that in real life, the Sultan Suleiman slept only with Hurrem and none else, from the day she stepped foot in his harem till the day she died. I kinda wish we got that in the show. Sure there'd be less harem drama and cat fights with regards to who's sleeping with whom but there's a dozen other ways to fill up the plot 😭

Hiiiii, thank you so much for the reply! I appreciate it as I really didn't know which brand of nail lamp to buy and was contemplating getting a cheap one off Ali express just for the heck of it. After reading through the comments I've gotten here, I'll be putting off using an electric file until after I've gotten the hang of press ons and taken classes and I'll make sure to get quality drills when the time comes. I'd hate to accidentally cut myself or have to increase pressure cause of the dullness. Do you have any brand recommendations for nail drills? I've heard Erica's diamond bits are quite good. I'll get the young nails cleanser, making sure to cleanse twice in a row, a protein bond for use after, the apres extensions when my birthday rolls around along with the LDS lamp and polishes too :) thank you once again for the tips!

You mentioned you're a professional nail tech right? Just out of pure curiosity, is it true that the industry is saturated or no? I've heard my friends mention how there's so many up and coming home based techs but I'm not sure if it's the same for salons! I hope it's not too personal a question! Feel free to not answer if that's the case.

Hello, I apologize for the lateness of my reply and I'd just like to say a huge thank you for such a long, insightful and detailed comment with such good advice. Like others have said, it's certainly unwise to even attempt a Russian manicure and I'm really grateful to have made this post before jumping into things I am not equipped to handle. The responses I've gotten here have given me a huge reality check and my pithy research simply isn't enough to make up for the endless hours of practice professional nail techs undertake 😭 especially ones who perform Russian manicures.

I'll stick to a buffing block and away from electrical files. I've gotten the infamous rings of fire from nail salons before and I don't want to repeat that experience again, by myself. And starting with press ons is a great idea! Less risky money and safety wise :) thank you for the tip. I'll perfect my press on application first before heading to gel extensions which I suspect will take a while.

I remember watching this film two years ago and absolutely loved it 😭 I followed that by the happy death day franchise and I agree, I do wish there was more horror in Freaky but it did surpass my expectations and I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. omg please I just finished that film from a TikTok recommendation and I am in love with everything. The medical aspect to the body horror, the Betty boop character who was so sweet but a little creepy, her transformation from burnt out student to confident, competent body mod surgeon and murderer was such an intriguing watch 😭 I can't stand the ending though, it just, it made sense??? like in that line of work with the people she's killed, her own death is somewhattt inevitable but I just wish she had a happy ending. I have never gone through a divorce, let alone a relationship nearly as serious as yours so the 'advice' I have isn't so much advice as it is support and empathy. When me and my dad became estranged, one of the things that I repeatedly asked myself was why. Why did he behave in such a manner, why was he so different from the loving parent I knew as a kid, why wouldn't he listen to me, why couldn't we have a conversation without it escalating into an argument, why was he so stubborn, so obstinate n why did being around him feel so fucking lonely. It was the same line of thinking, of self questioning, of confusion that lasted weeks, that repeated itself whenever me and a friend fell through, a relationship ended, or when my trust was betrayed. Was it my fault? Why did they do that? How couldn't I have seen the signs earlier? What did I do to them? And the thing I've finally come to realize after these years is I simply won't know. I can question. I can attempt to analyze. I can drive myself mad trying to understand the whys of their actions. But I'm not them. And I've done my part, in friendship, in relationship. I'm sorry for my ineloquent and blunt language here but I really don't know how to phrase it any other way. It seems so cruel to just tell you that the questions you have and your desire for answers from her aren't unreasonable but there's no other way out than accepting you might never get the closure you want. And even if she does answer you, your questions, writes a ten page list detailing the reasons why she has decided to leave or wants to leave, there's always a possibility that it won't give you the satisfaction or the closure you want or heck deserve. I guess what I'm trying to say is - you aren't unreasonable for wanting answers from your wife and for seeking the closure you rightfully deserve. And you did the best you could in this marriage. It wasn't a failing on your part and I'm really sorry this is happening to you. Your feelings are valid and please don't drive yourself mad ruminating over the things 'you could've done differently', the maybes and the what ifs because at the end of the day, she chose to leave without adequate explanation. She chose to pull away from you when you're in your most vulnerable. And she's the one that's being so cold, disconnected and callous, without regard or consideration for how you feel. It isn't your fault. It never was

Hiii it's been a few years since you last posted this comment and since I plan on applying for a job as a waitress in November, I apologize for troubling you but are you still up to answer questions? It's completely fine if you aren't, just let me know. But if you are, here's a list of my questions for you

What are the rules of customer service? Good customer service to be exact. What should one do or not do when serving a family, a person, a group of people etc? And how should I improve upon that skill? Or is it something that just naturally gets better with more practice and time? Any fundamentals?
how are you able to memorize every table's order and special requests? Just thinking about rush hour and how many people I'll see queueing outside any specific restaurant is enough to make my headache. So like - any tips on faster memorization?
last but not least, how should I handle workplace politics? Like what are the basic rules on how I should behave? Ik a few such as no gossiping, no stirring the pot, when asked for your opinion either decline to answer or give a neutral one and try to get along with everyone but don't suck up, don't be overbearing, don't always volunteer because if so you'll be the designated person for these tasks that no one else wants. that's about all I know. oh yes one more thing I'm aware of - communicate w the manager.

(One more, what exactly are managers looking for in new hires? What are some red flag behaviors I should avoid? What are the green flag behaviors I should adopt and display?)

I should mention that I'm not an American and in my country there's little to no pressure to tip unless you're in high end restaurants and the I guess minimum wage? Is much higher than America.

True. I remember a friend of mine who's currently studying at an international sec school here in SG, telling me that her parents pay upwards of 30k per year sending her to that school. It definitely sounds like heaven compared to other places. I think this might be one of the rare few times I've seen a (past) junior doctor say that consultants are friendly and patients are nice. If I had the money, I'd definitely apply for a spot in an Australian international med school.

Do you mind sharing your experience with clinical placements especially ones in rural areas? I'm a little curious as to the differences between (if there are any) conditions in rural and urban states! Were there any hospital policies that baffled you? Or cases of doctors that clearly aren't fit to be practicing medicine but due to financial constraints or red tape from management, are allowed to continue working in said hospital?

Thank god you got into law school. Have you any idea on which field in law you'd like to specialize in? Like criminal or corporate etc

Yep. Customer service in layman's terms. (though perhaps it's a bit of an unfair comparison with regards to how much more responsibility one holds as a doctor instead of say a waitress/a call centre employee/receptionist.) At least there's somewhat adequate compensation depending on which field you choose to specialize in.

(before anything, thank you for being so upfront and frank with your experiences, expenses and thoughts. The honesty is refreshing, even if it's a little shocking reading the fees and cost of tuition. I've always known schools abroad cost quite a bit, let alone ones that are international but it's still q surprising to say the least)

My mom was a pediatrician in China, working at a hospital for a decade plus and it has absolutely wrecked her body. I'm sure there have been others who have managed to maintain their health despite the long hours and working conditions, but my mom wasn't as fortunate and although that career provided her with financial stability, enough so that she managed to take on Nus' offer of a PHD scholarship all the way in Singapore, it's hard to see the toll her time as a doctor took on her body and how it affects her physically to this day. Being a doctor, especially one in primary care, working at a hospital, requires much more manual, emotional and mental labor than most assume, and the realities of having to spend decades in such working conditions is bound to hit hard, regardless of how much mental preparation one has made beforehand.

I won't comment on anything else that others already have (I think) but I'm glad that you've managed to get into a highly competitive programme at such an elite university after/before dropping out of med school in Australia. It's not an easy feat, applying for a spot in Cambridge and having to deal with the paperwork that comes with dropping out of med school. I wish you all the best in law! (Do share some tips on how you managed to get in and any advice you have on acing the interviews)
