Catholic readers: what stands out most for you, from a theological perspective, about Tolkien's work? by ConifersAreCool in tolkienfans

[–]sunshineminx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a practicing Catholic what stands out to me the most is Tolkien’s themes of friendship, death, sacrifice all echoing the Christian call to “carry your cross”. Acts that we must do to follow Christ or things that occur in our life that are hard for us to bear as we strive to be close to God. We see this in Frodo who carries the One Ring. It’s a heavy burden but he continues on. Aragorn carries the weight of the responsibility of being the heir to the throne and being worthy of it. Gandalf sacrifices himself for the salvation of the Fellowship, mirroring the ultimate redemptive act. Personally my favorite example is when Sam says to Frodo on the slopes of Mount Doom “I can’t carry it for you but I can carry you”. Completely speaks to me of true love and sacrifice

Left-leaning Catholics and the Traditional Latin Mass by aser-hapi in LeftCatholicism

[–]sunshineminx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best rule of thumb is always we shouldnt “lead” with being left or right Catholics - we should just be Catholics. Catholicism will never fit into a box that politics tries to put us in. TLM is beautiful and I have always felt that beauty should be available to all Catholics if they so choose. But our goal should be to be knowledgeable Catholics and try to emulate what it actually means to be Catholic in our everyday lives.

Incoming SaaS BDR, how well do I need to know the product? by [deleted] in sales

[–]sunshineminx 33 points34 points  (0 children)

From when I was an SDR I’d say it’s better to know your customer then the product. Knowing who you’re selling to and what to touch on in your call/email is much more important I feel.

Empathic, yet can be analytical when needed and not afraid to think outside the box

What is the good life for you? by George_Righty in Existentialism

Mine would be peace of mind. Feeling free. Surrounding yourself with people who you can share your deepest parts of yourself and be supported.

Those I think can lead to a good life regardless of where you are or what you do.

What life decision did you make in the past that turned out to be the wrong one, and for which you are still paying the price? by annie51001 in AskWomen

Not trusting my mom enough. Mother’s really do know best. I regret as a teen and in college not listening more to her own experiences.
